After a number of breaks from the hospital, Ethan (Brian Tee) is back, for good, on the Wednesday, April 13 episode of CHICAGO MED.

“He comes back in 18…and he’s in the show for the rest of the season,” CHICAGO MED co-showrunner Diane Frolov told reporters in the video below during One Chicago Day

“He gets thrown a big emotional curveball, which he’ll come to Dr. Charles to talk about,” added co-showrunner Andrew Schneider.

Oliver Platt, who plays Dr. Charles, admitted he has enjoyed the screentime he’s gotten to share with Tee this season. “The great thing about talking to Ethan is that…the character is a traditionally sort of rigid, by the book, kind of guy, who maybe you will even say is a little bit buttoned up,” he said. “And, of course, shrinks just love that. I love the way our relationship has developed.”

With Ethan spending so much of this season off-screen—and losing his father in one of the moments viewers did see him—Platt also teased that time away could lead to a change. “He’s gone off and a lot of stuff’s happened to him,” he said. “He’s going to come back and you’re going to start to see a different Ethan.”
