With the Vas-COM scandal now exposed, it’s back to business as usual on CHICAGO MED, which returns with new episodes on Wednesday, January 5.

So what comes next? CHICAGO MED co-showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider shared a couple of teases of what’s ahead…

Love is in the air.

After losing April (Yaya DaCosta) and Natalie (Torrey DeVitto) last year, “we didn’t want our characters just jumping back into another relationship,” CHICAGO MED co-showrunner Diane Frolov says. “We have been enjoying with Will and Stevie, that has a different dynamic than we’ve seen before with [him]—that kind of friendship-banter dynamic. And we are going to have some romantic relationships that are going to happen in the group.”

“We’re developing one for Dr. Choi,” adds co-showrunner Andrew Schneider.

“And with Dylan,” Frolov continues.

Stevie’s Continuing Mama Drama.

Stevie (Kristin Hager) has struggled how to contend with her mother, Terri (Bonita Friedericy), who has had health issues—and the mother-daughter have had an extreme difference on how Terri should live her life. “We are going to continue that storyline with her mom and we are going to bring it to a resolution,” Frolov previews.

In the aftermath, “Stevie’s going to have to look at herself and how she interacts with her mom,” Frolov notes. “She’s going to play that out with Dr. Charles.”

Crossovers are back!

While the ongoing global pandemic has thwarted the annual ONE CHICAGO-encompassing crossovers, MED has slowing been incorporating smaller crossovers back into the world. And that will continue on in 2022.

“We are going have some of the little mini-crossovers with some PD people,” Schneider says. “[They will] be in the back half, because of dealing with Dylan’s cop past and how it affects his present.” While Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) popped up in 2021, Voight (Jason Beghe) will be appearing on MED in 2022, Schneider teases.

A familiar face is returning.

“We’re planning to have someone return, but we’d prefer not to spoil who that is just yet,” Schneider teases.

Whomever it is is so top-secret, the showrunners declined to elaborate whether the MED vet was a regular or guest star. What Schneider would allow? “In the Wolf universe, if you’re not dead, you can come back.”
