[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Wednesday, May 18 episode of CHICAGO P.D., “House of Cards.”]

The operation to take out Escano (José Zúñiga) took a turn on Wednesday, May 18 episode of CHICAGO P.D., as Voight (Jason Beghe) gambled by not telling his informant, Anna (Carmela Zumbado), that the man Intelligence had taken in, Mateo Vega, was a rapist. (Voight originally told Anna that Vega was a car thief and that’s why he was testing her. She said she wanted out, because she sensed the danger, but Voight talked her into finishing their operation.)

When Anna discovered the truth, she was furious with Voight, who couldn’t answer whether Escano was there when she was raped. Anna insisted she was going to continue with the operation, but then she never wanted to see Voight againt.

But with the big take down about to occur, things blew up, literally—and Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), who was close to one of the suspects and the cartel truck that exploded, appeared to be unresponsive.

In the finale, the team is “definitely trying to hold on to water,” Patrick John Flueger, who plays Ruzek, says in the video below. “The whole team is basically trying to grasp water in their in their paws and it just keeps slipping through the cracks as water does…It’s a rattling thing, I think, for the team, as a whole—even though I think Burgess, Atwater, Ruzek, have less information than maybe Upton and Halstead—as a collective, it’s a consistently rattling thing to watch Voight not have a through line, not have very specific idea about the conclusion of things. About where we’re going, what the goals are—I don’t know if he even knows exactly what his goals are at a certain point.”

“I think that’s gonna be really interesting for the audience to see, because when have you seen him like that?” Flueger continues. “When ever have you seen Voight be, ‘I don’t know what to do.’ He’s just kind of throwing, excuse my language, but s— at the walls to see what sticks sometimes. And we notice.”

But as alarming as the explosion was—”It’s going to feel like Michael Bay himself directed that moment,” LaRoyce Hawkins, who plays Atwater, jokes—a friendly competition between the CHICAGO FIRE and CHICAGO P.D. crews means the actors are dying to see what members of their sister show think of the moment.

“No shade to CHICAGO FIRE, it is just a friendly competition and we’d like to keep going,” Hawkins jokes. “So I can’t wait for them to see it.”
