STARS ON MARS, CRIME SCENE KITCHEN, and CLAIM TO FAME

CLAIM TO FAME – “Defections, Connections and Total Perplexions” – With five contestants left, loyalties are tested and two players confront each other. This week’s challenge tests the players’ celebrity trivia knowledge as more clues are revealed. MONDAY, AUG. 14 (10:01-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (ABC/John Fleenor)
MONAY, FRANKLIN JONAS

Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

STARS ON MARS: So. Many. Dog puns.

Here’s the thing: It’s not like you can keep the contestants there without their consent, but it’s also annoying how many are self-evicting. Ariel had gone through so much, and, yeah, she outlasted Lance, but it was weird timing.

CRIME SCENE KITCHEN: The way my jaw dropped when none of the finalists got the last cake right—that was insane? (Also, how does ginger look/smell like lemon?! And it wasn’t one group…every single pairing got it wrong.) In some ways, the extra time allowed them to actually absorb more information, but it also shook up the pattern they had from the start.

But congrats to Amber Croom and Yassmeen Haskins! They made some absolutely delicious bakes. (Including that first round cruffin, which I would eat instantly.)

[For more on the finale, here’s what Croom and Haskins shared about their win.]

CLAIM TO FAME: Oh my God, the Chris and Gabriel fight was painful. I get where they’re both coming from: Chris betrayed Gabriel and Chris knew he needed help and went to the one person he thought wouldn’t be able to hurt Gabriel going forward. At the end of the day, it is a game, and they’re both a bit out of their league. (I’m glad they apologized later, though.)

Monay was absolutely a killer with the pop culture trivia and finding the right stars. As we saw, just knowing the answer wasn’t enough if you couldn’t land on the spot in time.

The interesting position we’re in now is that it feels like a number of people won’t comprehend the clues. We saw, for a second, the “is Gabriel connected to Nick Cannon” guess, but Monay and Chris’ relatives are people you need to know-know to get. Like, if you don’t get Monay’s relative with the CURB clue, what would it take? With Chris, I just don’t know how much people will think of his relative sans prompting. Maybe if you start talking about the family as a whole…
