Chuck Season Finale: Chuck vs. The Ring

WARNING! This post contain spoilers for the season finale of CHUCK. STOP reading if you haven’t seen it. Trust me…you don’t want to be spoiled.

Before I turn it over to SB I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for being such wonderful supporters of CHUCK.  I know we’ve made a lot of new friends around here because of CHUCK and it’s so nice to be part of something so special.  An extra special thanks to SB for her amazing reviews for the past two seasons. Through her weekly take on CHUCK we’ve built up a great community of TV watchers who meet here to discuss the show every week — it’s what GMMR is here for.

So thank YOU and thank SB.  See you next season!

———-

I kind of can’t believe that I’m writing my last Chuck recap of the season already! It’s totally flown by. I know that everyone was really excited to discuss the finale last night and have been talking about the episode in the post that GMMR was kind enough to open up, so I’m going to take a slightly different approach than usual on my recap this week and focus more on the future of the show, my opinions and speculations, and just a couple thoughts about the episode. The comments can be used for discussion of anything Chuck related—we’re free spirits here, people!

Alright, I know there’s a lot being made about it saying “series finale” on the NBC site, but as someone pointed out, it also says “season finale” right next to it. I want to address it so it’s not an elephant in the room, but I really think we shouldn’t freak out about it yet because it just seems to me at this point like a stupid little error on the part of someone involved with the website, and I’d rather just save my freaking out (one way or another, there will be freakage) for the official announcement.

I really do feel like we’ve done about everything we can—we’ve mounted a huge internet campaign, convinced people to watch, bought footlongs, wrote letters, watched online (hint hint Hulu hint) … I can’t think of any bases that we haven’t covered, and now it’s just a waiting game. Thankfully, we’ll know by May 5 (the day of the NBC upfronts), which isn’t too far off. And I really do feel cautiously optimistic about Chuck’s chances. I think it’s natural to be a little nervous nonetheless, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t at all, but for now, I’m going to try to put it aside and focus on the show.

You know I totally loved the show last night—I was actually really excited that Ellie and Awesome’s wedding got ruined so spectacularly (and it WAS spectacular) because then they could have the wedding they really wanted, and that was really them. And of course, we got to see Casey the wedding planner.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: “The Three Days Rule” & “Mobius Designs”

April 28, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, How I Met Your Mother, Posts by Jen

Hey everyone, it’s Jen, finally getting around to chatting with you about the last episode of HIMYM and commenting about the most recent episode. HIMYM’s wonky scheduling has been a pain plus I went on a mini vacay to NYC which ending up having a slight veiled theme of the TV series I’ll be chatting about today. So, let’s get started!

The Three Days Rule
We’re back to the trickery against Ted. Ted has become the whole gang’s punching bag. Fool Ted once, shame on you. Fool Ted every week, shame for us fans.

Ted’s tendency to go too fast too soon with the ladies is well documented. Just ask Robin.  So when Ted exchanged numbers with a girl named Holli at the bar, Marshall & Barney warned him of calling to soon.  They reminded him of the three day rule. Wait at least three days before calling a girl after getting her number. Knowing Ted wasn’t going to follow their advice, the guys swiped Ted’s cell and switched out Holli’s number for Barney’s work cell.  And when Ted started to “texty text” with whom he thought was Holli they guys couldn’t help but play along.

While the plot seemed a little recycled from something I’ve seen before and can’t quite remember there were still a few things that the show put their own spin on. Like Barney and Marshall sexting Ted!!!

Their game continued until Sherbatsky found out and told Ted.  He decided to have a little texty text fun with the guys by sharing with “Holli” that he had a gay sex dream about his best friend.  Of course the guys battled about who his best friend was and who Ted would rather have sex with. Funny stuff.

The clips of Holli changing to Barney and Marshall after Robin let Ted know what they were doing to him were truly hilarious. And Barney and Marshall fighting over who Ted would crush on – I nearly fell off the couch. Marshall proclaiming, “I’m cuddly bitch, deal with it!” – best line and delivery of the night! Well, except for Stan’s smooth voice reciting poetry.

Dang, Robin has gotten action in both of these episodes while I didn’t notice Barney pounce on a woman at all. Are they really changing Barney ever so slightly that it’s almost unnoticeable to the untrained viewer?

24 Debrief: Day 7 | 3:00am – 4:00am

April 28, 2009 by
Filed under #1 featured, 24, 24 Recaps, Posts by Philboy

This episode felt like good ol’ “24.” Let’s get started before Jack tells me to, “GO WHINE SOMEPLACE ELSE.”

Debrief

  • Tony shows up to Galvez’s apartment. Money has been paid to Galvez. When Tony goes to get the canister, it isn’t there. Galvez wants to know who is buying/using the canister. Tony kills him for…being a nuisance? The woman who posed as Hodges’ lawyer visits Tony. She says that “the group” needs that canister to create more pathogen. Tony says the best plan would be to use the canister today instead of six months from now, like “the group” is planning. After talking on a very creepy conference call, they agree unanimously to go through with Tony’s plan.
  • The agents got Hodges to the hospital in time for him to not die. He’s in lockdown at the FBI. Jack figures that “the group” is using Hodges’ family as leverage. Jack tells the President to offer Hodges a deal for protection. They fake his death. Hodges tells Jack that, even though he doesn’t know any names, he knows that “the group” was planning on framing sleeper cells to show the need for their government contracts to stand up against the courts. The woman who posed as Hodges’ lawyer was the lynchpin to it all. Jack convinces the President to go forward on the premise that Tony and “the group” will attack today.
  • Jack needs the old CTU servers to keep up with Tony. Only one person knows how to use them…CHLOE! She tells Morris to take Prescott and leave and she goes to the FBI. When she gets there, Jack tells her everything…except that he’s dying. Janis is being how Chloe used to be and Jack yells at her for it. He mixes up Presidents Taylor and Palmer in his tirade, which clues Chloe in on the fact that Jack isn’t well.

Tonight’s TV Spotlight…Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Whew…last night wiped me out.  Every feel just a little bit too connected?  Last night was a busy night in the GMMR household what with the CHUCK finale taking over my life for a little bit.  But it’s all good. I’ll take a little time today to regroup and my brain should be back to normal (insert ‘normal’ joke here).

Tonight’s another big night for TV. My TV fried brain forgot IDOL was on and I made plans to see a movie
(gasp). Well at least it’s only an hour long performance show…I can easily catch up when I get home.  Despite a great lineup of TV, there’s not a ton I watch on Tuesday, so I can spare a few hours in a movie theater (as long as they have AC – it’s going to be 90 degrees again today).

Check out a few highlights from tonight’s TV schedule. What will YOU be watching tonight? Spill it.

American Idol | 8pm on Fox
It’s down to the Top 5. Tonight the remaining contestants perform standards made famous by members of the Rat Pack. [GMMR: I’m already excited to see what Adam Lambert and Kris Allen are going to do.  We know Matt will whip out the fedora. Allison will go for the retro S1 Kelly Clarkson look (I just know it). Tonight could be rough for The Gokey – I can see him really cheesing it up.  But don’t worry, the judges wouldn’t dare say anything negative against their golden boy.]

Reaper | 8pm on The CW
“No Reaper Left Behind
The Devil wants Sam to start learning how to bring about the end of days; Nina seeks revenge on Sock and Ben.

The Biggest Loser | 8pm on NBC
The remaining contestants race up and down hills carrying bags representing their weight loss so far; after one contestant is eliminated, the final four head home for 30 days before returning to the ranch.

Fringe | 9pm on Fox
“Midnight”

The Fringe Division investigates when several mutilated bodies drained of spinal fluid are discovered; the team discovers a scientist with possible connections to the Z.F.T. bioterrorist cell. [GMMR:I’m still playing catch up with FRINGE. Almost there, just a few behind.  And you have no idea how tough it’s been.  The show is great.  Fantastic. But I’m SO not the type of person that deals well with scary/freaky/gross stuff. I watch half the show with my hands over my face. Well, not the parts with Joshua Jackson, but still…what I will do for Pacey. Geesh.]

The Mentalist | 9pm on CBS
Red Sauce
Patrick and the team investigate when a mobster in witness protection is murdered. [GMMR:This is the first episode of THE MENTALIST since I got to meet the sexy cast at Paley. One look into Simon Baker’s eyes and I could tell that he knew I wasn’t a regular watcher.  Maybe I should change that.  Tell me…can I jump into the show starting tonight or is there a big back story I need to get caught up on first?]

Cupid | 10pm on ABC
“The Tommy Brown Affair”
Trevor discovers that an ex-jewel thief is in love with his parole officer; after her apartment is robbed, Claire finds herself depending more on Trevor. [GMMR:This show is still on?]

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit | 10pm on NBC
“Selfish”
When a 2-year-old girl goes missing, her young, irresponsible mother (Hilary Duff) becomes the prime suspect. [GMMR: I’ve been thinking about the L&O franchise a lot in light of Leno taking up the 10pm time slot next season. SVU doesn’t feel like a 9pm show. Does it?]

My Boys | 10:30pm on TBS
“Carpe Burritoem”
After getting into an accident on his new scooter, Brendan lets P.J. make all of his decisions for a week; Kenny’s band needs a new bass player. [GMMR: Seems like I have to watch this one again. I don’t remember too much about Brendan’s night club in this episode. But I do know I love a good stake out!]

A sneak peek at tonight’s MY BOYS

Also playing…

  • NCIS | 8pm on CBS: The murder of a Marine brings McGee and Gibbs to Los Angeles for a joint investigation with the NCIS office of special projects; Tony looks into Ziva’s personal life.
  • Dancing with the Stars | 9pm on ABC: Results show. Another celebrity and dance partner are voted off.
  • 90210 | 9pm on The CW: Naomi’s sister, Jen (Sara Foster), visits; Adrianna and Navid tell his parents about their decision; Dixon and Silver acclimate to her new school; Naomi convinces Annie to go on a double date.
  • Without a Trace | 10pm on CBS: The team looks for a journalist who went missing after writing an exposé about a corrupt politician.
  • The Real Housewives on New York City | 10pm on CBS: Alex and Simon plan a party to show off their newly renovated home; Bethenny is set up on a blind date; LuAnn and her husband get the opportunity to ring the NASDAQ bell.

What will YOU be watching tonight?!

In case you missed it, Neil Patrick Harris guested on LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON last week.  As usual, he was fantastic.  He did a little magic, he made us all laugh.

The host was impressed too.  Jimmy Fallon (@jimmyfallon) sent me a message saying “He is the guest that you dream about. Comes to play. That’s all you want in a guest. Magic too? Love that dude.”

Yes, we love him too.

Here’s Neil’s couch chat with Jimmy.  And in the second video NPH recalls his Doogie days in order to play a game of “Operation” with Jimmy and BONES star Emily Deschanel.

This is it. The season finale of CHUCK. NBC has not yet made the decision if our show will be returning next season or not. The ratings for tonight’s season finale will play a big part, so it’s crucial that not only YOU watch but you try to get some newbies in front of their TVs watching CHUCK live tonight on NBC at 8pm.

  • Way to go, Subway!
From Joe Adalian’s: ‘Subway: Good Night and Good ‘Chuck

According to two people familiar with the situation, Subway’s internal tracking of the “Chuck” promotion was off the charts. One source labeled it the best such product placement the restaurant chain has done “in several years.”

And here’s the kicker: Pace was so impressed with “Chuck’s” impact on sandwich sales, he actually called a top NBC ad sales executive to let him know just how much Subway loved the Chuckster. What’s more, Pace told NBC the company hoped the network decided to renew “Chuck” for another season.

An NBC source confirmed to TVWeek’s Jon Lafayette that the call took place. Just what impact the conversation may have on NBC’s decision remains to be seen. As big as Subway is, it’s only one advertiser. read the whole article here: ‘Subway: Good Night and Good ‘Chuck

Chuck vs. the Finale Footlong Goes International with Zachary Levi

It’s only fitting that the lovely lady that created the Finale Footlong campaign, Wendy, was on hand yesterday in Birmingham, England when CHUCK star Zachary Levi took over 300 people from the Starfury Convention to a nearby Subway to buy their footlongs.  Zac even got behind the counter and made a few sandwiches himself. (More pics at Zachary-Levi.com)

Here’s some video footage from the day.

Thomas, from the tech crew at Starfury also sent along some video of the Sunway excursion for you to enjoy. Check out the Starfury YouTube channel for more of their great videos.

Zac mentions coverage on CNN.  Well, here’s to hoping they see this.  I was contacted by CNN last week to discuss the Save Chuck campaign but I’m not sure the campaign will be featured today. I hope so. We need all the help we can get.

Now go out and buy those Subway footlongs and send in your pic to us!

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: Rose’s Turn

Comments Off on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: Rose’s Turn

After saying goodbye to Edie last week, Desperate Housewives was back tonight to deal with the aftermath of her death. Everyone’s pretty shaken up, but no one more so than Dave.

After nearly strangling Edie to death and then causing her to hit a pole while she fled in terror Dave is understandably feeling a little guilty. All of the ladies take their turn trying to reach out to him, and it’s Susan who finally succeeds. While trying to comfort him, she admits that it was her who was driving, not Mike, when they hit and killed Dave’s wife and daughter. The look on his face after she admitted this was horrifying. And, after the scene at the end of the episode, I’m afraid for MJ. Dave certainly seemed like he was planning something. Hurting MJ would be the thing that would hurt Susan the most and that’s what Dave seems to be aiming for.

Bree is finally starting to seriously consider divorce. Orson’s behavior has been out of line for quite some time and his latest stunt resulted in Edie’s death. Honestly, I’m surprised that Bree has put up with him for this long. She’s an independent woman with a successful business who certainly does not need to answer to a resentful husband. I sincerely hope that Bree will move forward with her decision to look into divorce.

Gabby is having trouble adjusting to the fact that all of her friends have gone back to work while she remains at home with her children. As a result, she’s been growing closer to Tom, who is a new stay at home dad. I think Gabby’s storyline with the garden club has potential. After all, Gabby’s at her best when she’s in control.

That’s it for tonight folks! I’m really excited for Jackson to be back next week to make things a little more complicated. Tell me what you thought of this episode below as well as what you’re most looking forward to leading up to the finale.

Tricia is your Desperate Housewives girl this year. She’s from upstate New York and is currently a freshman in college. She’s also a hardcore TV fan; check out her homemade TV schedule: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27093551@N08/2782207387/
