Still Paley-ing Along in L.A.

I know you may find this very hard to believe, but there’s been two TV bloggers in this hotel room since Friday and the TV hasn’t been turned on with the exception of a few minutes on Saturday morning. Bizarre. Ducky and I have caught a few minutes here and there on my Slingbox, but we’ve had so much other stuff going on that there hasn’t been much time for the ‘ol boob tube. In case you were wondering, this is my excuse for the lack of updates on GMMR this week.

We’ve had a great time not only at the Paley panels but in Los Angeles in general. Being here has presented a bunch of opportunities to meet with some really cool people, some of whom will be really helpful in bringing GMMR a lot more inside scoop on our favorite shows in the future. And we’re note done yet!

But this week has been all about Paley. Two panels down and two more to go. If you are a true TV lover like me than this is one hell of a way to spend a week – my birthday week none the less.

PUSHING DAISIES…
I’m hoping that if you are a PUSHING DAISIES fan then you’ve found your way over to our coverage of the Paley panel over at ThePieMaker.com. We’ve got pics, videos, recaps…everything you could really ever want to know about the panel. Dan and I will be posting our PUSHING DAISIES Piecast Podcast later today, and I’ll be sure to post it here as well as over on our Pushing Daisies site. The panel was last Saturday and Dan and I have been reliving the incredible night ever since.

CHUCK…
Last night’s CHUCK panel was hysterical. My cheeks were hurting all night from laughing so hard. With Zach Levi (Chuck), Ryan McPartlin (Captain Awesome) in the house the hotness was off the charts. A great panel with a great moderator in LOST’s Damon Lindelof. Not a bad way to spend the night. Ducky and I did a quick podcast recap last night so check back for that later in the day.

What to Watch…Wednesday, March 19, 2008

The trend for tonight’s TV seems to be people getting booted.  Idol, Big Brother, Survivor…tonight they all send one attention seeking soul on their way to begin their 15 minutes of fame.  It was nice knowing you, but adios!
American Idol | 9pm on Fox
American Idol Another dream is shattered tonight when the American public sends another AMERICAN IDOL contestant home.  Who will be making the talk show circuit this week?  Who will be the next contestant hanging with Rosie O’Donnell?  It broke my heart to have to give up tickets to tonight’s live taping here in Hollywood.  I would have loved to be there in person.  But I had to make the choice between IDOL and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and the Dillon Panthers won out (easily).

Big Brother 9 | 9pm on CBS
Big Brother 9 “Eviction Night”
The ChenBot will greet another evicted house guest.  Will it be Ryan or Matty? Tough choice as I really like both guys.  Ryan has been my favorite since the season began so it will be especially tough if he is the guy to go home. Whomever it is will head off to sequester in the jury house. Who will it be?

Survivor: Micronesia – Fans vs. Favorites | 8pm on CBS
Survivor: Micronesia “Like a Wide-Eyed Kid in a Candy Store”
One castaway leaves the game prematurely and another one is voted out at tribal council; the romance between Amanda and Ozzy heats up; a bond develops between an eager fan and a willing favorite. I still haven’t watched SURVIVOR from last week so I have to get that done before I watch tonight’s ep.  Oh the pressure of it all.

What will YOU be watching?

New Kate Flannery Blog (and OFFICE Promo)

New Kate Flannery Blog!

THE OFFICE’S resident lush, Kate Flannery, just posted a new TV Guide blog. I don’t know about you, but the thought that new episodes of THE OFFICE are less than a month away is really blowing my mind. Don’t you miss our friends at Dunder Mifflin?

Kate’s blog brought me to my happy place – just knowing the cast is back at work makes me think all is right with this world. She’s got updates on Angela’s belly, a few thoughts on the first episode back, and what it’s like to be back at the office…um, work. Oh and by the way, she’s not kidding about the LEATHERHEADS billboards all over town. I’m staying on Sunset in West Hollywood and I can’t drive 2 feet without seeing Krasinki and Clooney staring back at me. How annoying!!

…did you buy that?

Go check out Kate’s blog and make sure you leave her a comment to show the love. She definitely reads them all.

David Archuleta Sings The Long and Winding Road (Watch)

Little David Archuleta bounced back from his rough performance last week with tonight’s rendition of “The Long and Winding Road”. Hey, at least he remembered the lyrics. If you stand real still you can feel the energy of the tweens around the country swooning.

Big Brother Spoilers: POV Winner and More

Last night Kilwiggle sent along some spoilers from inside the BIG BROTHER house. Sorry that I’m just getting around to posting them now.  But if you want to know who secured this week’s Golden Power of Veto and whether or not they used it, check out the latest spoilers here: Big Brother 9 spoilers!

Big Brother Spoilers (Update #16) – POV Winner

James won the POV.  They had to run back and forth over a plank 500 times carrying something.  He uses the POV to take Sheila off the block and put up Matt.  So Matt and Ryan are on the block together.  Natalie was ticked off and is trying to get votes for Matt, but it doesn’t look good.  Matt is playing the card that he doesn’t want to be in sequester for his birthday (on April 9).  Either way, it doesn’t look like he is going to stay in the house at this point.  Sheila is playing both sides because she doesn’t want to be a target with Natalie if she wins HOH next week, nor does she want to be a target for the other team.  She thinks that Adam is going to vote the same way she does, and will back her up in her decisions.  We’ll see how well that pans out for her.

Talk to Me: HIMYM, Big Bang and Bachelor…

For those of you who might have just read a post saying how bummed I was that I missed HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and THE BIG BANG THEORY due to technical difficulties…yeah, scratch that.

CBS.com and I just had a nice hour together and I was able to watch the funny. Good times all around!

The Big Bang Theory…
My love for all things Sheldon knows no bounds. I know geek is the new stud, but Sheldon brings it to a whole other level. Jim Parsons’ deadpan deliver cracks me up. And the nerd love in the cold open was brilliant. It was nice to have the nerds back. I’m off to go see if I can blow up Ducky with just the power of my mind.

How I Met Your Mother…
Barney, HIMYM It was nice to see that Barney Stinson took the wardrobe recommendations I gave yesterday for this St. Paddy’s Day night on the town. How very Raven of him! Barney can top ‘o the mornin’ me anytime he wants. I didn’t realize just how much I missed those Barneyisms. Glad he’s back.

Robin still has nothing to do and doesn’t serve a real purpose in the show. Sorry, but true. But with the news of Robin Sparkles returning in the near future, I guess we’ll keep her around. At least she can hang with Marshall and Lily in their new, slanted apartment (oops!).

But the big news of the night was the spotting of the yellow umbrella. Yes, Ted’s future wife was at the club and they didn’t even meet. Was Mrs. Mosby perhaps the woman Ted bumped into at the bar? Nah, but nice try. To be honest, I’m not all that interested in meeting ‘the mother, is that wrong?

The Bachelor….
Still haven’t seen last night’s premiere of THE BACHELOR, but if you all think it’s worth checking out then maybe I’m going to have to go ahead and watch. Your call.

If you have ears and eyes then you probably know that Britney Spears will be guesting soon on an upcoming episode of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. News from the cast and creators has been really positive. Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby) said “The only thing ‘scandalous’ about all of this is how non-scandalous it is”.  And other cast members including Neil Patrick Harris have said that Britney’s been great to have on the set.

So want to see what Brit Brit looks like in the HIMYM world?  Check out this newly released shot of her, Josh Radnor, and other special guest star Sarah Chalke.

Joss Whedon’s New Musical…Can You Stand It?

Joss Whedon’s New Musical…Can You Stand It?Last night I drifted off to sleep with the soundtrack to “Once More with Feeling”, the Buffy musical episode, playing in the background. Today I wake up to the news that Joss Whedon is back with a new musical and he already has some familiar faces on board.

Yeppers, Joss has completed a 3-part Web series musical featuring none other than Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion. Can you stand it?

Here’s what the genius Mr. Whedon had to say about it.

So…..
The bag is catless.

During the strike I started writing a musical intended as a limited internet series, 3 episodes of approximately 10 minutes each. Writing with me was my brother Jed, his fiancee Maurissa, and my other brother Zack. To my shock and surprise, we finished it. To my greater shock and surprise, we managed (with the help of many people I’ll be praising at length soon) to drag it into preproduction (yes, just as DOLLHOUSE was given a start date two months away and all my comics were due.) And today, after a grueling week of writing everything ever while trying to be a producer, I got to start shooting. A musical.

This much I will say: It’s the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he’s too shy to talk to. And I’m having the time of my life.

“DOCTOR HORRIBLE’S SING-ALONG BLOG”
Neil Patrick Harris…..as Dr. Horrible
Nathan Fillion……….as Captain Hammer
Felicia Day………….as Penny

And a cast of Dozens!
Coming soon.

I can’t wait until the launch, and I’ll be sure to keep watching for more news. Is anyone else excited?

Thanks to AfterElton.com for the scoop.

What to Watch…Monday, March 17, 2008

St Patrick’s Day - Neil Patrick HarrisHappy Neil Patrick Harry Day St. Patrick’s Day to my fellow Irish lads and lasses. It’s not often that I wake up on a Monday morning so enthusiastic to start the day. But there’s a lot to be happy about today.

First I don’t have to get up and go to work because I’m on vacation in L.A. (that and I am currently between jobs and wouldn’t have a job to go to anyway). Second, I’m looking forward to spending some time over at Warner Bros today – meeting a friend for lunch to discuss a little TV scoop and then heading over to talk the walking dead with our friends over at PUSHING DAISIES.

You’d think that would be enough, but on top of all of that tonight marks the return of two of my favorite shows: HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and THE BIG BANG THEORY. Yup, both shows are back with the first new episodes since before the WGA strike. It’s going to be (wait for it…wait for it)…and continue to wait until Barney Stinson is back at 8pm tonight. (Oh yeah, don’t forget that HIMYM and THE BIG BANG THEORY have switched time slots). Oh happy day.

ABC also has a big night ahead with the premieres of both DANCING WITH THE REJECTS STARS and THE BACHELOR. All this and me without a TiVo.

Get excited with me people!

The Big Bang Theory | 8pm on CBS | NEW!!
“The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization”
Sheldon and Leonard are asked to a physics conference to present their work together, but that leads to a feud because Sheldon’s too arrogant to share the honor. Penny does her best to mediate, but only makes things worse.Check out a clip from tonight’s episode…

How I Met Your Mother | 8:30pm on CBS | NEW!!
“No Tomorrow”
Ted decides to live life like Barney on St. Patrick’s Day, which probably involves activities that would make a saint blush. Ashlee: Vanessa Minnillo. Mary: Arielle Vandenberg. Stephanie: Mieko Hillman. Bouncer: Terrell Lee.Annnnnnd scene…

Canterbury’s Law| 8pm on Fox
“Baggage”
Elizabeth is wary of her client, an accused murderer (Pruitt Taylor Vince) who claims he can communicate with the dead, but she’s convinced of his abilities after he shares information about her missing son.

New Amsterdam |9pm on Fox
New Amsterdam on Fox“Honor”
A pair of brutal sexual assaults—one resulting in murder—remind Amsterdam of events he witnessed while working for a wealthy landowner in the 19th century. Meanwhile, Amsterdam gets better acquainted with Sara.

Dancing with the Stars | 8pm on ABC | Season Premiere
The sixth-season opener features the six male contestants: Adam Carolla, Cristian de la Fuente, Steve Guttenberg, Mario, Penn Jillette and Jason Taylor.I’m rooting for Carolla and the Guttes!! Although I probably won’t watch at all, who are we kidding.

The Bachelor | 9:30pm on ABC | Season Premiere
The Bachelor - Matt GrantAs the dating series returns for its 12th season, bachelor Matt Grant, a 27-year-old British financier, moves into his digs in Malibu, Cal., and meets his 25 would-be soul mates, 10 of whom won’t make it to Week 2.

Also playing…

  • Kyle XY | 8pm on ABC Family
  • Two and a Half Men | 9pm on CBS
  • Paradise Hotel 2 | 9pm on MyNetworkTV
  • The New Adventures of Old Christine | 9:30pm on CBS

Hot damn there is a lot of TV to choose from tonight. I know I ask this almost everyday, but I’m really interested to know…what will YOU be watching?

Pushing Daisies at Paley Fest ’08

Pushing Daisies - Paley Fest

An incredible night was had for all who attended the PUSHING DAISIES panel at this year’s Paley Fest. Cast members Lee Pace, Anna Friel, Chi McBride, Kristin Chenoweth and Ellen Green were joined by members of the creative team including Bryan Fuller, Peter Ocko, Bruce Cohen and Dan Jinks in celebration of this incredible new series.

The panel, moderated by E!’s Kristin Do Santos, gave all in attendance a glimpse behind the scenes of Pushing Daisies and a few answers to some of the biggest question posed by fans (Is Ned a vegetarian? Can Ned and Chuck ever have children? Will Chuck find her mother?…Yes. No. Yes.). There were hints as to what will happen when the show returns for its second season in September, as well as news about the S1 DVD release (slated for September) and a possible soundtrack.

Ducky and I will be doing a full podcast recapping the night for those of you who weren’t able to attend, so check back for that later tonight. But until then, I wanted to share some direct links to the stuff we’ve already posted from last night. Enjoy!

There Are No Words…

Earlier tonight I attended my first Paley panel. To say the night was amazing is more than a bit of an understatement. Not only was the panel for PUSHING DAISIES simply fantastic , but getting to spend time at the after party with the cast and the fantastic writers was such a pleasure. There really aren’t words. Thank you so much to Bryan, Lee, Anna, Ellen, Kristin, Kath and all the other people that made this night so memorable.

For all you PUSHING DAISIES fans out there, we’re going to have a ton more about the Paley Fest panel including tidbits and pics up soon at ThePieMaker.com.  But our Pushing Daisies coverage doesn’t end with Paley.  Ducky and I are heading over to the set on Monday to spend some time with Bryan Fuller and the writing team.  Fuller already whispered a few secrets about the season 2 premiere script they just finished (and no we won’t spoil you), and it’s juicy stuff.  We’ll see if we can’t  get a little more out of him on Monday.
