24 Debrief: Day 7 | 12:00 am-1:00 am

April 7, 2009 by

Well, we had a hilarious/awesome episode this week, but before we get started, I want to talk a little bit about “Chuck” in honor of “Chuck Week” here at GMMR. So, if you’re tired of the “Chuck” rhetoric, skip down to the Debrief.

“24” and “Chuck” have a lot in common. They’re both about spies and agents. They both have main characters who…umm…well, OK, Chuck and Jack Bauer have nothing in common. Jack would have killed Chuck within two minutes of being charged to protect him. In fact, Jack would have joined Fulcrum just to have the chance to kill Chuck, out of spite.

But nonetheless, anyone who has ever read my witty biography at the bottom of all my pages, knows that “Chuck” is one of my can’t miss shows. I watch a lot of TV and Chuck is one of those shows that I make time for. It’s witty, it’s got everything that a contemporary show looks for: an awesome and compelling ongoing story as well as fun and intriguing weekly adventures. This show is quality, and it needs to stay on the air. And, to do that, it seems, members of the Nerd Herd like me need your help. So, please, think about writing a letter, even if it’s a quick one, to the powers that be. Thanks!

Alrighty, sorry about that. On to the…

Debrief

  • In looking at Senator Mayer’s records, Jack finds information about Knowles, Starkwood’s Chairman who was secretly working with Mayer to take Starkwood down. Knowles says he knows where the missiles for the bioweapon are and will take Tony there. Larry helps Tony create a diversion to escape and gets captured in the process.
  • Jack is starting to feel the effects of the bioweapon. President Taylor is concerned about him, as is Renee of course. He collapses at one point and the CDC gives him an injection that he will have to take constantly to stay functioning. They say that he can be given a transplant to alleviate the symptoms and family members are the most likely donors. Renee googled Jack and saw Kim’s name, but Jack told her that he and Kim don’t talk anymore and that he doesn’t want to call her.

  • Knowles’ key card didn’t work. While Janis worked to get them into the right warehouse, Starkwood security captured Knowles. When asked what he was doing out there so late, Jonas gets angry that Knowles is questioning him and allowing the subpoena by the government to occur. Jonas then beats the crap out of Knowles with a Maltese Falcon…I mean a paperweight or something.
  • Doug threatens to leak the Starkwood Bioweapon story to his paper. Olivia tells him it’s a matter of national security that he not do that. He blackmails her into having sex with her. She blackmails him back. She is evil, but effective.
  • * After Tony confirmed the weapons were there, President Taylor sent F18s to the Starkwood compound. Jonas, of course, knows this and calls the White House. Taylor is forced to a) take a meeting with Jonas and the White House and b) turn the planes around to avoid a launch.

Agent Philboy’s Assessment

This episode set up some things for us to build on, which I think will make next week a crazy one. Jack is really feeling the bioweapon and, as I called it a while ago, Kim will show up soon, if not next week, to be concerned, annoying and hot.

I was sad to see Knowles go so soon. Like I said a couple of weeks ago, I really like Chris Mulkey and I hope that he finds a good vehicle like this one. But, that being said, he did go out in a blaze of glorious crazy provided by the one and only Jonas Hodges. Seriously, he is rivaling some of the all time crazy bad guys in “24” history as the craziest. Not only did he think that he was going to get out all of that blood with a dab of a little water, but he also thinks he’s going to launch those missiles four stories underground. Well done, Jonas.

My award for “Biggest AWWW Moment” of the night was Taylor talking to the President. I really hope that the writers decide to keep Taylor on for next season and end the revolving door in and out of the Oval Office. Even if the entire Joint Chiefs looked like she had kicked their puppy (seriously, they looked so damn sad!), she HAD to turn those planes around. If she had attacked the Starkwood compound, the show would be over and we have seven hours left. What would Jonas have to scare us with at that point? He doesn’t have a paperweight big enough to crush the AMERICAN SPIRIT! Or Jack. No paperweight could destroy Jack.

Everything I Need to Know in Life I Learned from Jack Bauer (and Others)…

  • A diversion doesn’t have to be complicated. Just punch a guy, apparently.
  • * If the President worries about you, you’re doing it right.
  • If you’re going to collapse, make sure there are plenty of CDs stacked around you without cases to make it more dramatic.
  • Some people are so annoying, you would rather die than call them. And, that’s OK.
  • Always have a full bar available if you’re planning on killing a guy. (Courtesy of my Mom)
  • If you want to really get under the President’s skin, establish a proprietary line.

Weekly Kill Count = 1 Total Kill Count = 345+

What are your theories on what the heck Chloe is doing?

Philboy is GMMR’s resident Dexter and 24 analyst. He spends his days studying Communications at Purdue University and his nights failing at keeping up with all of the TV shows he loves. His can’t miss shows are “24”, “Chuck”, and “Life on Mars”. The thoughts running through his head for this week are, “Life on Mars is over. Sadness ensues,” and “I hope Kim isn’t annoying this time around. HAHA. I’m funny.”

Honestly, Philboy, where the hell is Chloe and what are they holding her for? I truly believe Chloe would have cracked that lock code a lot faster (she is superhuman in my world.) Perhaps Renee knowing how close Chloe is to Jack prevails upon her to either talk to Jack about Kim or more likely call Kim directly.

And one moment on Chuck – it and 24 are Mondays for me, we go from the sublime to the ridiculous in a matter of moments, or is it the other way around? In any case, both are awesome and one even has a character by that name. If you out there don’t watch Chuck, I will get very angry, perhaps not Hodges angry but angry nonetheless.

i think he’s talking about JONAS talking to the president.. i hope anyway.

Lisa – Chloe is awesome obv, BUT.. she was also having her baby at the time these middle eps were shot, she’ll be back within the next couple.

Just get rid of Janis, already… whose bright idea (not) was it to bring Janaene Garawfulho [sic] into the cast of 24, anyway? Jack would never allow that!

Thanks, Alex…a good real life explanation for Chloe being missing makes me feel much better!

I actually meant Taylor talking to Jack. Or, did I mean Jack talking to the President. Apparently, I meant both and neither at the same time. Thanks for keeping me honest.
