SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Screaming for Lauren, Kent and Jose… Crying for Alex

July 8, 2010 by

On a night that should’ve been a somber disappointment, given Alex Wong’s injury, we actually got several scream-your-face-off, lose-your-breath performances from the remaining seven contestants.

I’ve got few words for you on the subject.

Let’s just let the genius speak for itself…

I am loving Kent and Lauren right now. How smoldering hot and just plain perfect was my girl in her performance with Pasha? Pure murderation — as Mia put it — is right. And her partnership with Kent in this last piece was simply precious, I found myself actually melting over their teenage love, wondering if they might really be in a relationship together. And though I didn’t include the video of Kent’s hip hop with Comfort in this post, I thought he pretty much killed it with a Justin Timberlake-like cool.

Jose had me gasping for breaths during his performance with Lauren. That kid can act and this week he freakin’ danced too, damn it!

And Ashley, well, she’s just awesome. As usual.

Agreed?

To be honest, all the wonderful aspects of the show were lost with the hounding of Adechike. It went way past critical into plain old nasty and cruel. I agree with their points on his dancing but I was disgusted by the way in which Mia (and her sidekick Adam ‘don’t have an opinion of my own’/watch playback Shankman spoke to him.

Even Cat’s defence of Adechike and the hypocrisy were poorly dealt with by Nigel. He turned it back on Adechike when the poor guy hadn’t said anything. I was just appalled by the judges.

You picked my favorite dances of the night. i was surprised how much I missed Alex. I think he raises the bar for everyone and he is not my favorite. I totally love Kent and Lauren.

Oh I feel so awful for Alex and hope he’ll be ok! I agree that Lauren and Kent were both real standouts of the night, though I also really loved Billy’s Broadway routine and Robert’s doll routine. I was actually glad to see the judges finally be critical of Adechike. I feel like he’s been one of the weaker dancers all season and the judges had given him undeserved praise the last few weeks. But I did totally agree with Cat’s point that if they are going to be critical of some dancers on technique, they need to be criticall of all the dancers on technique and it is not fair to let Jose slide just because they like him. He is not up to par and should go home soon. Props to Cat for calling out the judges on that. She’s awsome–when is she going to get a much deserved Emmy nomination?

We must be living in alternate universes because last week was the ONLY week Adechike has gotten any props from the judges. I agree with Adele that the judges harshness and hypocrisy towards Adechike was too much. Loved Lauren, Ashley, Kent, and Robert and Katherine’s dance (did they miss a flip?). If Adechike makes bottom three, I’m sure they will eliminate him.

I am a big fan of Alex and concur with the judges that he is amazing. But to say “I wish Alex was here” was Adechike was being judged was rude and completely wrong. Both of his routines were good, in my humble opinion. They rided on the Bollywood routine and I thought I did an amazing job. Look, Jose did a good job this week, but he is NOT A DANCER. He has heart and enjoys what he’s doing, but he does not have Adechike’s skills at all. The judges, or truthfully just Mia, pissed me completely off.

The biggest thrill for me last night was having Katee back!

  7. Katie on July 8th, 2010 6:14 pm

Lauren, Kent & Travis was the absolute highlight for me. I’ve been hoping for weeks he would choreograph for them, and it was amazing. And they were so so so cute together!
I felt soooo sorry for Adechike. The judges were incredibly harsh. Loved Cat Deeley though for calling them out on the whole thing with Jose’s and Adechike’s bollywood. She said exactly what I was thinking.
Robert’s barbie doll dance also was great! I actually have a vintage male Barbie that totally looks like him :).
As for Jose: I’m sooo sick of him. I didn’t think he did much dancing this time either. Maybe in the first 20 secs of the piece, but one of the moves already was a b-boy move. Other than that, pretty much all he did was walk, sometimes run, and lift Lauren.

Kent is so cute and i love how him and Lauren work together. Also i feel kinda bad for Alex i hope he gets better.

Adele I completely agree with you! There were some great highlights on the show, I loved Lauren and Kent and I flove Jose and all-star Lauren, but everything was tainted with Mia’s remarks! (I hate the screeching and screaming but let’s bring Mary back! She’s honest, direct and most importantly she’s not cruel and mean) I am SO disappointed, Mia is one of my favorite contemporary choreographers but I really think she should stay out of the judging box and just choreograph. Just like with Melinda a couple of weeks ago when she said she wished they would have kept Cristina instead, there is no need to be cruel and mean to these dancers give me a break. I was so happy when Cat called them out with the whole Jose and Adechike bollywood bit. How can you say you don’t care about someone’s technicality, just because you love them and then rip the other dancer for their lack of technicality. A judge is there to be fair and must try to remain neutral and objective and I just think it’s all gone out the window this season!

  10. Jane on July 9th, 2010 3:33 am

Love Katee! Love Cat, so awesome for pointing out the hypocrisy. The judges are really unreasonably mean this season with their harsh judging for Alex, riffing on Travis’s choreography, and the patronizing fawning over Jose for his naive-ness is just ridiculously annoying. They need to sober up and even out their judging for honest constructive critiques and not mean snide comments.

i completely agree Mia and Adam were way too harsh on AdeChike. Last week was the only week he received positive feedback!! This week the bollywood number was fantastic!! AdeChike is the best technical dancer now that Alex is gone. He did several russians in a row without missing a beat, and I thought he put his own flare into it. What really bothered me was that Mia was not only nasty towards AdeChike, but she assumed that Alex would somehow do better. AdeChike’s performance was the best of the night, much better than Jose’s.

Kent and Lauren were amazing as well, this was my second favorite performance of the week.

I am unsure why the judges have continued to give Jose such high praise! I don’t see the same personality the judges do, and he is definately not the best b-boy I have ever seen. I think the judges want to keep him around because he has a different style. They did this with Melinda too. Great dancers were sent home just to keep a tapper there, for some variety. While she was an amazing tapper, she seriously needed to go home the first week, maybe not even get into the top 11.

I have to say I hate MIA really hate her, I find her obnoxious when she’s speaks and half the time she is talking nonsense and she was down right rude to Adechike(though he’s not my favorite at all) I think she was rude and I honestly usually fast forward when she speaks
