THE WIRE Project: Season 1, Disc 5 (The End)

In THE WIRE’s sixth episode, Detective Lester Freamon reminded his colleagues that they were building a case against Avon Barksdale’s crew out of small pieces, “and all the pieces matter.” Those five words tell the audience everything they need to know about this once-in-a-lifetime program.

After five weeks of work on The Wire Project, I cannot decide what to do next. Do I dive directly into the Season Two DVDs that taunt me from my bookshelf? Or would it be wiser to watch all thirteen episodes of Season One again, in appreciation for the master craftsmanship of David Simon? Your feedback on this dilemma would be appreciated!

As in previous installments, I will kick start the conversation with my friend Heather’s help, as we react to the final two hours of the season. In the discussion thread that follows, I would love to read your thoughts about the series’ characters, storylines, and themes.

There will never a bad time to introduce yourself to this world, because The Wire is a sociological experiment that may never yield clear answers.

WHITE COLLAR: Copycat Caffrey

July 28, 2010 by

Neal Caffrey is a man with an ego. I’m not sure he could be a career criminal without a certain level of self pride. As such, Neal is a man who wants his “accomplishments” to be admired. It’s part of why his friendship with Peter works so well. Because while Peter [usually] stands firm on the legal side of the line, he still appreciates the skill – and let’s be honest, the style – involved in Neal’s schemes.

  • Peter: Would you pay $4 million for that?
  • Neal: Pay…?
  • Peter: Yeah, you’re the wrong person to ask.

The Case of the Week

Did this week’s case remind anyone else of the movie, 21? I loved that movie. And while I’m not calling this a copycat episode, the plot was similar enough that I wonder if the writers of White Collar also loved that movie.

A painting was stolen – a “slash and grab,” if you’re looking for the technical term – and Peter’s team figures out pretty quickly that the culprit is a criminology professor and a few of his students. (Although Peter wondered briefly if Mozzie could be the thief until Neal pointed out that he’s too short to actually slash and grab a painting off the wall. Ha!)

WAREHOUSE 13 Recap: Age Before Beauty

July 28, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Warehouse 13

“Age Before Beauty” felt a little darker to me than the other episodes this season, particularly with respect to how the changed ages resulted in death for the victims. Yikes.

This week’s case finds Pete and Myka in a little Miss Congeniality-type situation. The fashion world is losing some of its most beautiful models – to old age. Immediate and indescribable old age. Years are being literally stolen from the women, and it’s up to the team to go undercover to figure out what is happening.

The perfect way to do so? Vamp up the va-va-voom with Myka in a little red dress, and ¡andele!, we’ve got ourselves a model! All she has to do is look great and boss Pete around.

Sounds good to me.

Oh except for the part when Myka turned into an octogenarian. Um, creepy!

The team discovered that a 1930’s photographer, Man Ray, had a camera with artifact properties but it was never found. They find the photographer (who’d winked at Myka at the catwalk) and realize that the camera doesn’t just steal youthfulness, it also transfers it to another person. Or as Artie put it, ‘peddling a second chance at life’. It was a little unclear to me how exactly taking a picture of the photographer restored Myka’s youth, but we’ll just go with the writers on that one.

PARENTHOOD: Billy Baldwin on Board To Play Adam’s Boss, Plus More Season 2 Scoop

July 28, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, Parenthood, TV News

PARENTHOOD has added a new player to its roster.

Billy Baldwin — who previously worked with series star Peter Krause (Adam Braverman) on DIRTY SEXY MONEY — will portray Adam’s boss, executive producer Jason Katims confirmed on set Tuesday afternoon.

Said Katims, “He is the owner of the company and he’s sort of a larger-than-life, big picture kind of guy. We like the idea that Adam is the guy who does everything to keep the company going and [Baldwin’s character] is the one who gets all the credit and the money.”

And the girl.

“He will eventually, potentially, have a little romantic entanglement with Lauren Graham’s character,” Katims revealed.

The two will actually meet on the job as Graham’s character, Sarah, will be working for her brother Adam this season. So expect to see a lot more of his office come fall. In fact, the show has added two new sets — which I toured Tuesday — including said office and the attached shoe factory, where their product is apparently produced.

BONES ‘Retro’ Music Video

July 28, 2010 by

I know, I know, you guys are waiting for the awesome David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel joint interview that I did at Comic-Con to be posted.

This, obviously, isn’t it.

Actually, this technically isn’t even a new video… it’s just a freshly-recycled version of an old BONES promo.

How very green of the network, no?

Obsessed BONES fans — and I think there may be a few of you out there — might recognize it as the promotional vid that was released right before the 100th episode aired last spring and very little has been changed this time around.

But I’m obsessed with great promos, the song is awesome and David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel are worth watching in anything over and over again, right?

I’m not the only one who replayed that three times on a loop, am I?

30 ROCK, Broadway Star Cheyenne Jackson Joining GLEE

July 27, 2010 by

Fresh off their Regionals win, Vocal Adrenaline is getting a new leader.

Sources confirm to GIVE ME MY REMOTE that Broadway star Cheyenne Jackson — whom you may recognize from his recurring role on 30 ROCK — has been be cast as VA’s coach on GLEE, as EW.com first reported.

No word on how many episodes he will appear in, but expect to see him several times this season.

And what about Vocal Adrenaline’s former coach, Shelby (Idina Menzel)?

Executive producer Ryan Murphy confirmed at Comic-Con that she will be back, and since she’s Rachel’s bio-mom and the adoptive mom to Quinn and Puck’s kid, we imagine the show won’t have any problems finding a reason to bring her around again.

Any thoughts on Jackson taking the Vocal Adrenaline reins?

WAREHOUSE 13 Stars Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly Spill on a Body-Switching Episode

Comments Off on WAREHOUSE 13 Stars Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly Spill on a Body-Switching Episode

We at GIVE ME MY REMOTE are enjoying WAREHOUSE 13.

It’s been pretty fantastic this season, hasn’t it?

And based on what I heard from stars Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly over the weekend at Comic-Con, the best is yet to come.

“We do a body-switch episode,” Kelly says in the video below. “I have to be Pete!”

“All I know is we switch bodies and it’s funny,” McClintock says.

“He feels my boobs,” she adds.

Of course he does.

Take a look to see the hilarious exchange between the two actors and why they think season 2 of WAREHOUSE 13 is even more rockin’ than the first…

They’re ridiculously adorable, right?

VAMPIRE DIARIES: Ian Somerhalder Hits Comic Con, Talks Damon and Katherine

Normally, sharing an interview with six other reporters is super annoying.

But in the case of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES’ Ian Somerhalder, it might be a good thing, considering my inability to look him in the eye without losing my train of thought.

Seriously, man, my God.

That face is, quite simply, a work of art… and then, when he opens his mouth, and starts making you laugh…

Well, just watch the video.

I tried my best to keep it together and I even managed to ask a couple questions without sounding like the drooling loser that I am.

So, yeah, listen in as Ian talks about the thrill of TVD’s Comic Con panel, having to be on camera after a night of drinking, why Damon is so in love with Katherine, whether he had any idea he was actually kissing her — not Elena — in May’s season finale and what will make this season so difficult for him…

Yum.

THE BACHELORETTE WTF Moment of the Week: Men Tell All Edition

July 27, 2010 by
Filed under #1 featured, The Bachelorette

Let’s be completely honest: Monday’s THE BACHELORETTE: MEN TELL ALL special was a big freaking disappointment.

I mean, this season was full of drama. We had some of the craziest contestants ever.

So you’d think that when you reunited so many of them to rehash what happened over the course of the season, there would be some fireworks.

And all we got was that?

There was no drama!

GLEE’s Got a New Girl Coach

July 26, 2010 by
Filed under Glee, Glee Spoilers, TV News

Sounds like the McKinley High football team is getting some extra help on the sidelines this season, kids.

According to TVGuide.com, actress Dot Jones — who worked for GLEE exec. producer Ryan Murphy on NIP/TUCK — has signed up to play a coach.

Kind of cool, right?

A chick shepherding the football team?

Has GLEE just helped to break another barrier?

Will the NFL be recruiting female leaders now?

Probably not, but it’s a nice thought.

You pumped to see Jones added to the GLEE roster?

Or do you think it’s a silly idea?

BONES Exclusive: Emily Deschanel Reveals When She’s Making Her Directorial Debut

During the BONES panel at Comic-Con in 2009, series star Emily Deschanel revealed that she really wanted the chance to direct an episode of the show — but creator Hart Hanson was wary of the idea, since Deschanel already works crazy hours.

It seems, however, that her persistence has paid off.

Deschanel tells GIVE ME MY REMOTE that she will be directing a BONES  ep this year.

“I broke them down,” Deschanel explains in the video below. “I kept asking and asking and knocking on their doors and asking and shaming and everything, so I am going to direct this season.”

And when will it go down? Deschanel was good enough to give GMMR the exclusive on that, saying that she’ll be shooting her episode in January, right after the BONES crew comes back from their holiday break.

Exciting, no?

Does she want her hour to be a big event? After all, her co-star David Boreanaz got to helm the 100th ep.

Peep the video for Deschanel’s take on that…

CASTLE Stars Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic Read From ‘Heat Wave’ at Comic-Con

Comic-Con is over and I’m not gonna lie…I’m missing it already.

I mean, where else would you see CASTLE stars Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic doing a reading from Richard Castle’s book, “Heat Wave” and a steamy prelude to a love scene, no less?!

It was one of the most hilariously bizarre moments of the Con, and as I teased in our CASTLE live chat, I caught it all on video.

Check it out…
