Fox Opts to Not Air HIEROGLYPH

June 30, 2014 by

Well, it seems we have our first cancellation of the 2014-2015 season…and we’re still months away from the first new show even airing: the new Fox series HIEROGLYPH will not move forward as planned. (Update: A rep for the show confirmed the news.)

HIEROGLYPH was created by Travis Beacham, and was set to be showrun by BEING HUMAN’s Anna Fricke.

Personally, I was intrigued by the trailer for the series, so I’m a bit bummed the show never got a chance.

What do you think?

COMMUNITY will live on.

Nearly two months after NBC opted to cancel the comedy, Yahoo has picked up the series for a 13-episode sixth season to air exclusively on Yahoo Screen.

“I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo,” Harmon said in a statement. “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!”

“’The reports of our cancelation have been greatly exaggerated.’ —Mark Twain (The other version of this quote has been wrong for years),” series star Joel McHale (Jeff) said in a statement. “#SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real. Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It’s the internet. We can swear now.”

So, um, that’s happening. What do you think?

UNDER THE DOME: Neal Baer Teases Season 2

Comments Off on UNDER THE DOME: Neal Baer Teases Season 2

UNDER THE DOME is back tonight with a very special season premiere — Stephen King (who wrote the book the CBS series was based on) is penning the hour.

“Stephen writing the episode is really sending us off into a place that he feels really proud of and really loves and it’s his kind of ideas of how to go beyond the book,” UNDER THE DOME showrunner Neal Baer told reporters last month during a panel for the series. “And so that’s really special for us to have Stephen launch us this season. And…what’s better than having kitchen appliances and barbecues come to life? That’s so Stephen King.”

As the season 2 premiere plays out, a few familiar faces will meet their end (and one death is particularly violent), but some newbies will be joining the show to make up for the losses.

Filed under #1 featured, GMMR Awards

After weeks of nominations and voting, you have determined who should take home the fourth annual Give Me My Remote TV Awards!

Before we get to the winners, I want thank everyone who participated in our annual contest. Without your nominations and votes, it would just simply be me saying what I loved the most, and what fun is that? (And in case you think your vote might not have made a difference, while most winners won by hundreds — or thousands — of votes, one category was won by TWO votes.)

Which also means this is a good time to remind you that these winners are 100% decided by you, the Give Me My Remote readers, and some fan bases came out in droves (and mounted really impressive campaigns). So if you’re delighted by the winners, yay! I’m so happy to hear that. And if you’re disappointed, a) sorry, and b) hopefully you’re satisfied with at least one category.

So with all that being said, the winners of the fourth annual GMMR TV Awards are…

RIZZOLI & ISLES: Jan Nash on Saying Goodbye to Frost and the Heartbreaking Cameo

June 25, 2014 by

RIZZOLI & ISLES tacked its most difficult episode on Tuesday night as the show said goodbye to Detective Barry Frost — following the real-life death of Frost’s portrayer, Lee Thompson Young.

“It was very important to [series stars] Angie [Harmon (Jane)] and Sasha [Alexander (Maura)] that the death of Barry Frost be handled in a way that was very respectful,” R&I showrunner Jan Nash explained. “When you start seeing things through that prism, the decisions [become clear] that in retrospect almost seemed inevitable. If you’re going to try and deal with the things that were left over from season 4, you don’t want to add the death of a character on top of that, because then everything’s fighting each other. So that led to us dealing with [Frost’s death more fully] in episode 2.”
