LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT is getting a return visit from one of its most disturbing characters: Ethan Cutkosky is reprising Henry Mesner, the child psychopath, in the season 22 episode “Post-Graduate Psychopath,” a rep for the show has confirmed.

In season 14’s “Born Psychopath,” Henry’s abuse of his sister put him on SVU’s radar, and ultimately led to his diagnosis as a psychopath. The episode ended with the character in a juvenile treatment facility. Now, Henry is 18…and asking to be released.

SVU showrunner Warren Leight pointed to “Born Psychopath” as an episode he wanted to revisit back in 2019.

“[Ethan] was great,” Leight, who co-wrote the hour with Julie Martin, said at the time. “I’m thinking [that character] should be out of the system by now. But we haven’t discussed it [officially].”

Update, May 3: The hour will officially air on May 20. In the episode, “Rollins must revisit an old case when a child sent to juvenile detention is released after his 18th birthday.” In addition to Cutkosky, the hour’s guest stars will include Bill Irwin, Sideara St. Claire, and Deirdre Lovejoy.

EW.com was first to report Cutkosky’s return.
