LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME finished the first half of its freshman season with Elliot (Christopher Meloni) discovering photos that clarified what went down in the moments prior to the bomb exploding, which would lead to the death of his wife, Kathy (Isabel Gillies).

But rather than getting answers, he had more questions, as he realized the bomber saw exactly what was happening and it wasn’t the wrong person being attacked…it was an intentional hit.

“He knew it was Kathy getting into the car. I wasn’t the target. Kathy was the target. Why would anyone want to kill Kathy?”

The franchise had been leaving breadcrumbs that there may have been more to the car explosion since it happened in the LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT hour, “Return of the Prodigal Son.”

When Elliot was first relaying what happened to Olivia (Mariska Hargitay), he noted, “I got a call, I stepped away, I gave her the keys. She was worried we were going to be late for your award.” And when they found the bomber, Sacha Lenski, he didn’t know it was a cop’s car.

In the ORGANIZED CRIME premiere, there were also a few moments may have been foreshadowing, as Elliot’s oldest daughter, Maureen (Autumn Mirassou), shared that Kathy said on her deathbed that the accident wasn’t Elliot’s fault, because he hadn’t been doing dangerous work while they were in Italy.

But when Elliot was silent, his daughter Kathleen (Allison Siko) demanded to know whether Kathy had lied to Maureen or Elliot had lied to Kathy. “Your mother never told a lie,” Elliot insisted. But, notably, their youngest son, Eli (Nicky Torchia)—who was the only one living in Rome with his parents—looks away at that. (Elliot also insisted Rome was Kathy’s place, but…why?)

And while the task force has Wheatley in their sights, there have also been a few signs he might not be the one responsible for Kathy’s death—or at least not the person who ultimately has the final say. Initially, Wheatley didn’t seem to know Elliot until he made his way into his world. And after Elliot was beaten up, Wheatley seemed shocked to see that had occurred. So is he another red herring?

Unfortunately for Elliot, his discovery wasn’t received, yet. His family, worried about his safety after his PTSD caused a sizable car crash, staged an intervention and looped in Olivia. His former partner tried to reason with him, asked him to listen to his kids, but he was defiant, insisting he was fine. When Olivia asked him to tell them what he needs, his response was simple: he loved her.

But that declaration—in front of his kids, in the midst of an intervention—didn’t go well, and he panicked, leaving his family. In the aftermath, Olivia didn’t return his calls, so his revelation was left on her voice mail. And, depending on who he was on the phone with at the time of the bombing, were they a part of Kathy’s assassination?

What the heck do you think is going on?!
