CHICAGO P.D.: Marina Squerciati Previews the ‘Brutal’ ‘Trouble Dolls’

On the Wednesday, May 5 episode of CHICAGO P.D., Burgess (Marina Squerciati) has to contend with a horrifying case.

“We find out [it’s not just] trafficking of young women, which it seems like we start out with, but it’s actually the trafficking of their babies and a baby farm situation,” Squerciati previews of “Trouble Dolls” in the video below. “Which we haven’t done yet, which was an interesting take. And it’s also brutal. One thing that they do really well on the show is that the personal story is always somewhat mirrored in the crime of the…week. So I like the symbiosis of those two things: Burgess dealing with becoming a mom, and these women, dealing with not becoming a mom, essentially.”

As she’s handling the case, Burgess is also jugging her newfound motherhood, as Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams) is going through her own trauma, and Kim has to contend with the realities of her dangerous job—and what that means as a single parent.

“This is a child who suffered a lot of trauma, and I am a mom that will possibly put her into a situation where she might have to deal with more trauma, because my life is kind of continually on the line,” Squerciati acknowledges.
