Intelligence’s case against Escano (José Zúñiga) took a turn on the Wednesday, May 25 season finale of CHICAGO P.D., “You and Me.” When Voight (Jason Beghe) found the criminal, he was bleeding out…and before he died, Escano told Voight and Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) that Anna (Carmela Zumbado) was the one to do it.

Voight went off to search for his CI, only to discover she had left a mess of evidence behind. He dutifully cleaned it up, protecting her.

But Halstead, who was all too aware of Voight’s tendencies, confronted his boss, reiterating his boss couldn’t pull the same stunt this go-round.

“So this moment right here, this is what we talked about months ago,” Halstead says. “When you’re about to go off the deep end and you’re about to cross lines and jeopardize every single person in this team, you come to me. Let me help.”

Voight balked at it, noting even if Anna claimed self-defense, she stabbed Escano six times—”there is no shiny fix for this.” Even still, Voight asked for the chance to save her.

Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), after witnessing Voight try to get rid of evidence, insisted they would not be going through another cover-up. And when Voight couldn’t be reasoned with, Upton appealed to her husband. “You can’t save him from himself, Jay,” Upton said.

With the walls closing in, a desperate Anna tried to reunite with her son, but caused an accident, which led to a commotion in the street. “I killed him,” Anna admitted. She told Voight he had to let her go, and pointed a gun at him. “I want out…I didn’t want to be scared, I didn’t want anyone else to be hurt by him.” Voight once again promised he’d try to help her.

Upton and Halstead found Voight and Anna, and raced to help their boss keep the situation under control.

“I’m going to get you out of this,” Voight continued to promise Anna. But she panicked when emergency vehicles started to get closer—thanks to the crash attracting attention—and she shot Voight…and Upton and Halstead shot Anna. As Voight and Anna laid on the ground, bleeding, Voight kept repeating, “you and me, you and me” as they waited for medical attention.

When the duo was placed in an ambulance, she apologized to Voight; he told her he was sorry. They got to Med, with Anna barely hanging on, and Voight refused to get treatment and leave Anna. Sadly, despite the medical intervention, Anna died.
