Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!

BEAT SHAZAM: Okay, that pre-final round had two songs I didn’t know?! I don’t know 100% of the songs the show uses for the competition, but I can’t recall having never even heard of two songs in a late round. I’m curious if this was my musical blind spot or if the show is just getting harder.

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: Oh, I was emotional when I realized Mzansi Youth Choir were singing Nightbirdie’s song. Wow, wow, wow. What a powerful audition. Very deserving of the first-ever audience Golden Buzzer.

The magic act with the screen and the comedian were really great, too. I hope they go far.

I can’t recall having an audition like the Ukrainian movement group…their falling down multiple times and still attempting the stunt was absolutely nerve-wracking. Logically, I knew there would not be a tragedy (because they wouldn’t have aired it), but it was deeply stressful to watch. I can’t imagine how much worse it was live, with absolutely no guarantees it might work out.

DON’T FORGET THE LYRICS: Oh my God, the first contestant’s absolute butchering of “Sucker” was very funny. Absolutely screwed him with the show, but deeply funny. But what a lovely moment with him getting that Stevie Wonder song—it felt like his grandma was watching out for him with that.

Okay, I’m actually shocked a woman who went to high school in the ’10s had NSYNC stickers?! (Yes, I was screaming at the screen the lyrics were wrong, because, uh, I am older than her.)
