Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

THE VOICE: Well, I cried at Stee telling John that his cousin Matthew was such a huge fan; of course Stee chose John, and that’s how it honestly should have been.

I was a little shocked that Chechi Sarai picked Gwen, and I’m curious how that will work. Style-wise, they’re entirely vibing. Musically, I’m a bit more skeptical? But we’ve seen odder pairings.

But, yeah, the most amusing odd/unexpected pairing was Mac Royals picking Reba. I love that he did it because his grandma loved her show. (Less surprising with their coach pick, but I also really enjoyed Noah and Reid’s auditions.)

It was very funny Niall and John blocked each other…but Niall’s block led to Rudi picking Gwen. Whoops!

KITCHEN NIGHTMARES: Okay, yes, QR code menus are bad. But, also, big portions are good if the food tastes good! (Sorry to Gordon Ramsay.) But, man, that chef was awful…it seemed like he did learn his lesson, but then the follow-up revealed he didn’t show up to work after the camera crew left?! OMG. I have a hundred follow-up questions.

LOTERÍA LOCA: This is just fun. Loved seeing Jaime Camil getting to sing, have fun, and banter with Sheila E. It might have been hard to keep up with it during #NormalTimes, but with the slower fall, I’ll keep watching night-of.

THE IRRATIONAL: Jesse L. Martin mentioning Mulder and Scully?! When I say I yelped, I’m not even kidding. (I mean, I’m sure absolutely no one is shocked. “The Unnatural” forever and ever.)

My nerdy joy aside, I actually think this was a really solid second episode. A lot of times second episodes are forced to be a secondary pilot, and this didn’t feel like it. Instead, it just felt like a good look at what the show will be, complete with backstory for Phoebe. (And the backstory worked in with their case of the week—and how lovely to have Amy Aquino as a guest star!)
