Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!

QUANTUM LEAP: This episode was gorgeous. Just gorgeous.

I’m not really sure what to make of Ben and Hannah, because as much as love at first sight can be a thing, they barely know each other. Infatuation, intrigue, absolutely. But love? I’m skeptical. (And a Grinch, apparently.) If that’s why Ben keeps leaping to her, though, it also feels like the show will be trapped in a narrow space of time. So we’ll see where they take this.

I’m intrigued by the notion that Ben may have a way to come home. Vaguely, I would guess the writers might not want to end this series the same way the original did, and having him leap by choice versus being stuck could be an interesting way to differentiate the shows and open up this version’s storytelling. Will they take that step, especially this soon in the show? Probably not. But it’s interesting to contemplate.

Also, truly delighted to have the wonderful Lou Diamond Phillips in this episode.

CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD: Okay, the Billy Porter team wasn’t incredible during the game, but wow to their final round performance. Impressive.

THE MASKED SINGER: A decent episode with no bad options to eliminate, frankly, which makes things tough. Anyone could have gone through and it would have been okay. John Oates being an anteater is very funny, in hindsight, though.

MAGNUM P.I.: I truly have no clue how Perdita Weeks put together this hour as her directorial debut. Putting aside the entire rest of the episode for a moment, that motorcycle chase? Inside, outside, having to hide her stunt person…it was a long sequence and looked fantastic. Just wow.

TC and Cade have my heart, man.

[For more on Weeks about directing the episode, here’s what she shared.]

CELEBRITY WHEEL OF FORTUNE: Matt Rogers was very good, Paula Abdul was very funny. It worked!

THE $100,000 PYRAMID: Matt Walsh was good with his first contestant in the final round, but less so with the second one. Yeah, soar is hard, but the cone one should have been very easy. (Yes, I’m aware it’s easy for me to say that from my couch.)

I wanted all those Shondaland holiday special clues! (I’m sure the contestant was more happy to win and make it to the Winner’s Circle, but the TV nerd in me wanted to see if they moved beyond the GA and SCANDAL world.)

Normally, it’s the celebs messing up, but the clues for “Kinds of Dresses” were, uh, not great. (“Things with a Smile” was a VERY hard clue, though, so I blame the game, not either of them.)

(I…have questions about what Howie thought “arson” meant.)

All things considered, decent games, which is lucky since they couldn’t bury this at another time of the year.
