Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

MASTERCHEF JUNIOR: Okay, yes, some things were a mess, but why eliminate two contestants during the first group task?! Lydia and Kristell both being eliminated broke my heart a little bit. (No, I don’t have a good answer for who should have been eliminated out of those two, but it felt just really harsh. Alas.)

THE VOICE: What a great start to the Battles. Maybe one of the best Battle episodes ever?! John using his playoff pass for Brian after Dan+Shay and Reba tried to steal him was great drama. Ditto Reba using her playoff pass and derailing Chance’s attempt to steal L. Rodgers.

The one act I’m really sad didn’t move forward was OK3…really wish they had been stolen, because groups bring an interesting dynamic to the show. Oh well.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Ali Deucher was great; there were a number of really good auditions. But now that we’ve reached the end, man, I resent we wasted time on “no” acts. And fake drama. We have 35 dancers moving on—did we see a third of them?! It’s especially egregious in a season where we’re supposed to be seeing more about their lives.

DEAL OR NO DEAL ISLAND: Okay, for as terrible as Rob’s board was for the team, it was actually probably the best possible thing for his personal gameplay…when the odds are that stacked toward you, take the damn deal and vote someone off.

People are getting so messy on this show, but it’s probably smart that Rob took out Kim. Like he said, she was his clear target, which means he kept his word and who he might be after next is a mystery. It’ll be interesting to see how people react now that Rob survived and Kim is gone.

Regarding the Voice, I was really impressed by the Battles of Karen vs Ryan and L. vs Tae. Both duos “performed” and told a story rather than just sang at each other as most Battles do. Not to say the others were bad but those two pairings were my favorite Battles of the night. As for OK3, I don’t think it goes well pitting a group against one artist

As for So You Think You Can Dance, I was taken with the young man who was a Drag Queen and performed as such. Not only did he seem to be a quite good dancer, he had lots of personality
