MASTERCHEF JUNIOR, THE VOICE, and SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: L-R: Finalists Madison, Dakayla, and Anthony with host Cat Deeley in the season finale episode of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE airing Monday, May 20 (9:01-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. © 2024 Fox Media LLC. CR: Tom Griscom/FOX.

Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

MASTERCHEF JUNIOR: I remain in awe of what the kids can cook. I really hope next year, though, they do the two-part finale block together, because the week hiatus really did not help the stakes/keep the tension high.

THE VOICE: How are you going to choose?! I can make a case for every single finalist. And the production on those numbers?! Wow.

It’s never fun when a coach has no one in the finale, but it also means it feels like they can be very, very honest. With Chance the Rapper endorsing Asher, I’m very curious if that sways anything.

[Here’s what the contestants shared about the performance finale.]

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Absolutely bittersweet and frustrating. It feels like screaming in a void, because it’s all done and it’s moot—and I doubt the show is coming back, at this point—but this season should have been so much better.

I understand the logistics of making the competition more realistic to what dancers will go through. I understand shifting away from live shows. But this is a show that frequently made me so invested in the contestants. It would make me cheer, cry, and be captivated by the numbers on screen. There was really none of that this season. The finale came the closest to the magic, but even that had some frustration. (Anthony’s paired number seemed really poorly lit at key moments?! Which is fine for setting a mood, but not great if you actually want to see the dance movements.) Alas.

Also, Cat saying it was the closest result they’ve had in the history of the show…HOW?! It’s not like America got to vote.

(Okay, yes, I instantly teared up the second we saw Alex Wong and they showed the snippet of his iconic dance with tWitch.)
