LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT: Peter Scanavino Previews Carisi’s ‘Conflicting Feelings’ About Rollins Consulting with the Squad
April 29, 2024 by Marisa Roffman
The squad deals with a serial rapist who is targeting brides on the Thursday, May 2 episode of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT. And they get a bit of help for the hour with the complex case from Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish), who left the squad in 2022 to become a professor.
But what viewers found out in 2023 was that Rollins has been unsettled in her new job—something she admitted she was hiding from her still-new husband, Carisi (Peter Scanavino).
“Obviously Rollins has a wild streak, and I think that’s really what Carisi liked about her,” Scanavino tells Give Me My Remote. “And then to just kind of turn that off and now she’s a professor—maybe that’s not quite scratching the itch for her. And he’s hypersensitive to that because I think he knows her better than anybody else.”
With Rollins consulting on occasional cases for SVU (and, in the past, OCCB), “it’s the balance [for Carisi] of you want the people that you love—and your partner—to be as happy and fulfilled as possible,” Scanavino says. “But then, at the same token, the world of a police officer is dangerous. And she’s not just his wife—she’s the mother of his children. So I think he might have some conflicting feelings about what that means and his feelings for her, her happiness, but also how that relates to this wonderful family they have right now.”
Will the duo actually discuss these things? “It might get discussed—you’ll have to watch,” Scanavino coyly teases.
Though Carisi’s family has been largely off-screen since he and Rollins got married, the actor acknowledges the big life changes have impacted the ADA. “Things have really settled for him,” Scanavino says. “I think prior to this, [marriage and kids were] something that he always wanted—or he thought would have happened. And then it all came very quickly for him. On that front, it’s all of a sudden he’s married and he’s got one kid of his own, and, basically, father to three kids.”
“I think he’s really hit the lottery,” he concludes with a laugh. “And he’s got a very happy home life.”
