It was a whirlwind for Rollins (Kelli Giddish) in her final episode of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT.

The Thursday, December 8 episode, “And A Trauma In A Pear Tree,” found Rollins and Carisi (Peter Scanavino) making an impulsive leap—they eloped! While they summoned Olivia (Mariska Hargitay), Fin (Ice T), and Velasco (Octavio Pisano), Carisi did share that there was also a bigger wedding planned later.

But that wasn’t the only change in store, as Rollins decided to officially leave SVU and take the professor job. She initially can’t find the time to tell Olivia, but the opportunity presents itself when the captain stumbles upon a case at a seedy motel upstate. The duo bust the men behind the hidden camera operation and the colleagues celebrate by drinking in Olivia’s room.

After talking about Olivia’s feelings for Elliot—and the pain she’s still in due to his leaving her for a decade—Amanda confesses, “I might be leaving, too.”

Initially, Olivia thinks she’s joking, until Amanda tells her about the job offer at Fordham. Olivia becomes distraught as Amanda tries to explain how much her captain has actually done for her: “You taught me how to love myself, and how to let people in—the victims and Carisi. You.”

Olivia is still upset, but Rollins is firm. “I made this choice,” Amanda says. “Liv, I need you to be okay with it.” Amanda leaves Olivia to think things over.

Later, Amanda confirms to Carisi she’s going to take the job. “My wife, the professor—that has a nice ring to it,” he says.

Before the hour ends, Amanda and Olivia make amends, jokingly agreeing to blame the boxed wine.

“You’re not losing me,” Amanda says. “We’re friends. That’s not going to change. I’m not going to disappear.”

“I wouldn’t let you if you tried,” Olivia replies. “Look, I know you have to do this…And if you ever want to come back…”

Amanda gives her a look. “Or not,” Olivia amends. “Okay, that’s settled. So get the hell out of my office.”

“Don’t postpone joy,” Amanda tells Olivia.

“You, too,” she replies.

The two women say they love each other, and Amanda leaves—to applause from the One-Six.
