BONES: Hart Hanson, Stephen Nathan, and Tamara Taylor Weigh in On Season 10 Possibly Being the End of the Show

BONES hasn’t officially been renewed for season 10 (yet), but Fox boss Kevin Reilly told reporters that he anticipated next year would be the last one for the long-running series.

And while fans may already be lamenting the show’s eventual end of the series, it’s bittersweet — and possibly a premature move — for the people involved with the show.

“It’s sort of strange!” BONES star Tamara Taylor (Cam) told me. “I’m okay with that, but it’s weird to hear it. You know something is going to come to an end, but when you actually hear those words, it’s a bit sobering.”

But despite Reilly’s indication, BONES boss Stephen Nathan isn’t quite ready to let go of the series yet.

“We do each season as it comes,” Nathan said. “We’ve been planning for an end every season, but we don’t commit to that, because it never seems like it’s going to end. And that could continue. We don’t know. I don’t think anyone knows at this point. We’ll be ready for it when the time comes, and God knows we’ve had a great run. But it doesn’t feel finished. It should. It’s been so long. But it doesn’t feel finished. It still seems fresh. The actors are still shockingly fresh. Everybody seems as if they’re just starting. So I don’t know [what will happen].”

And BONES creator Hart Hanson is equally torn about the show’s future.

“I am of two minds: I think [Booth and Brennan] have an amazing story engine for a series,” Hanson acknowledged. “If someone came to me and showed me ten years of BONES that I wasn’t involved in, and said, ‘Can you do something with these two people and these characters?’ I would say yes. But…because it’s a character-oriented show, it’s not a [pure] procedural like some of these other shows that have gone on for years and years and years, the characters [on those] don’t change all that much. Our characters change. As they change, they might leave some people behind. So do you get new people? I don’t know the answer to that…[the show] could go a long time, I think, but I’m of two minds, because eventually, you have to change the situation, when you’ve changed them as far as you can. But as I said, everybody relax, let’s get our tenth season [first], see how America reacts.

Would you be OK if BONES season 10 was the end?

BONES airs Fridays at 8 PM on Fox.

Somehow I don’t think the next season is finale. The casts & crews are still don’t want to let this show go.

The fans are all still very interested in the show and I think there is a lot more that could be done with it. I don’t think season 10 should be the last. But, at the same time the show has had a great time on air and the fans have gotten nearly everything they have wanted so far. If it was to end, I think it would be ok.

P.S. I’d really rather it stay on air for longer because this show just makes me so happy to watch. I have never been a TV person until I discovered Bones. It really is fantastic!

I’m not really sure if I’m ok with it ending. I’ve never thought about it before, and now that I have to I feel extremely sad. I’m trying to be happy that there will likely be a season 10, but the words “FINAL SEASON” kind of ruin it.

I really do not want to be the last season 10, I’m not ready for that. I love the serie like no other. And I think Bones still have much to show. I will definitely tocer madly to renew soon to season 10 and it is not the last. Bones is a really fantastic series! And when we think we can not impress us, she comes in and impresses, is making us cry or die laughing. I too love this series.

The show is still fresh — after 10 years no one can interfere with my Bones night, whichever night of the week it may air. Our family loves David, Emily and the rest of the cast. Once you think David and Emily’s performance cannot get any better, they air a show where they give you another helluva performance! They have evolved into a fantastic acting duo. So, is ten enough — no, it is not — just like we still could use another episode of Gunsmoke after 21 years!!! I think that once Fox sees the persistent excellent numbers Bones keeps getting — in spite of airing on Fridays — it would be difficult for TPTB to let go of a successful, “still on top of its game” series.

I, like all of the other BONES fans, are scared and disappointed that negative conversations exist and are distorted about the future of our favorite show. And I, like many others, believe there are alternatives to make the show stay alive, also exist! I believe that everyone associated with the show at this time, need to back off and get perspective. Bring in fresh ideas from the outside. I bet even a ‘commoner’ can give some great ideas to help provide the show with strength. Even as a avid BONES FAN, I can see things that need to change. I don’t want to lose BONES because of people wearing ‘blinders or just plain stupidity’. A ‘few’ of my twitter friends and I find the BONES cast to be ‘real’. We can ‘identify’ with them and the contents of the show. Clarification: Our Jobs. You don’t find that ‘realness’ very often. I know this comment won’t go any further than us, but it feels good to get it out there! Keep BONES alive!

I truly think Bones could go beyond season 10-the actors are getting better and better with each year and this season has been incredibly strong! I think there are still stories to tell and Bones fans are certainly staying with the show. Hasn’t Bones proved it’s staying power to Fox-no matter what night it’s been moved to-even the “dreaded” Friday timeslot-the show is still raking in strong numbers! I mean if SVU is able to stay on for what 15 seasons as well as NYPD Blue for 20 seasons-and there’s a number of shows that have lasted many years and are still going strong-I think Bones could go for at least 12 years. Like many other fans, I’m just not ready to see my favorite show “end”!

No this show should go on for as long as it possibally can l;ook at NCIS and Special Victums crime show. Kevin Rielly should be ashame of himself if this show ends on 10. As a fan I want it to go on until the writers and producers run out of ideas. Besides crime never ends and this show is great with the forensics of the crimes. Just my opinnion.

No. I am not okay with Bones ending.

No I never want Bones to ever end ;(

If “Gunsmoke” and “Law and Order” can run for 20 years, so can BONES!

  13. Anne on January 23rd, 2014 11:36 pm

I absolutely ate even the thought of bones ending. There are so many ideas and stories to be told. It is fox’s longest and best show. Despite getting moved to the Friday spot it gets a great amount of viewers. Fox would regret it ending. And the actors are so amazing, he work great together and have amazing chemistry. I an see bones going for any more seasons

After 9 seasons and this show is still wonderful. I dont watch any other shows besides for Bones. I love it. And I still go back and watch previous seasons. Its the only show that I can see going past 10 seasons. It truly is a great show. They were genius in creating so many story plots with many characters other than the top 2. There is always something to keep you interested. And chemistry between them all is one of those “once in a lifetime” flukes.

  15. Mary ann on January 28th, 2014 10:23 pm

I do NOT want the tenth to be the last. This is one show where the cast and producers are still eager to continue. Noone feels as if they are walking through their parts. They give it their all each week.. The characters are constantly growing and it’s great to see. I see no reason this can’t go like some other shows like Law and Order. But I would not want it to continue with a different cast.

I am so happy they went with S10. Bones could go beyond because it is a great show with a wonderful cast & crew. They bring so much to the show and it shows week after week. They have great chemistry together. David and Emily are the best of course but the others have shown they can hold their own on the show. The show has its drama and fun side. It is different than any other show on TV. BONES is the BEST!

I can’t imagine no more Bones. I watch every re-run. but I need to see these people every week. they are amazing. 10years and still feels new. do not talk about ending it. the entire cast has unbelievable chemistry. thank you for your wonderful writing staff.

  18. carol on February 4th, 2014 6:53 pm

So many fans love Bones. The cast & stories never get boring. Bones should go on forever. There are to many things they need to discover and explore.Final never….

Unless Booth grows up and gets some smarts, this show should end. How can an intelligent person like Temperance Brennan possible stay attracted to someone as STUPID as Sealy Booth?
