Countdown to Comic Con

Comic-ConSo I’m less than a week away from my very attending my very first Comic Con. Last week Ducky and I completely geeked out and actually sat in Starbucks and waded through 40+ pages of the Comic Con schedule so we could figure out what panels we wanted to attend. I don’t think Bush put this much planning into attacking Iraq…scratch that, we all KNOW he didn’t. Anyway, it’s going to be a crazy week with lots of scoop from some of your favorite existing shows (Lost, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica) and some newbies you are going to love like (Chuck, Bionic Woman, Moonlight and Pushing Daisies).

For those of you who are a fan of the GMMR|DuckyxDale TV podcast, then you are in luck because Dan and I will be doing a ton of mini-podcasts while we are at Comic Con in addition to a very special podcast that will include some of our favorite TV bloggers.

If you’ve been to Comic Con before and have any tips for newbies Dan and I, please feel free to pass them along. It seems like it’s going to be pretty intense, and I’m preparing for the battle ahead. Yeah, you heard me men dressed as Klingons…bring it.

And here’s a pic from a prop from the film. Looks like John’s character, Carter Rutherford, is shelling out the smokes. Tsk. Tsk.

I Could Kill Someone

I try to keep it clean here on GMMR but it pains me to not spew expletives right now at the asshat that sent me an email yesterday that gave away a MAJOR and I mean MAJOR plot point in the new Harry Potter book (which no worries, I will NOT be spoiling you).

The email came to my GMMR email address with the title “Breaking News”.  I thought that maybe it was some fun celeb gossip, but no, it was an email that had 3 major spoilers in huge font.  Who does that? Did you not have parents?  Were you not loved?  And before you ask, yes I tried to send a reply email, but as expected it was a fake email address.

So if you are the one that sent me the email, man up and come clean.

This Just In…Earthquake Hits San Francisco. Really?

Earthquake

So I’m perusing CNN and I read that San Francisco was hit with a 4.2 magnitude earthquake this morning at 4:42am PT.  Um, yeah, I was awake and already updating GMMR at 4:42am.  Just wondering I managed to miss an earthquake that according to sources is powerful enough to “break dishes and window, and overturn unstable objects.” Being from the East Coast you think I would have felt the quake a bit more than those who are a little more use to them.  So bizarre.

This post is really for my Mom who has never come out to California for fear that the minute she landed the West Coast would experience a massive earthquake that would break the fault line and send California falling into the Pacific Ocean.  Just in case you read the story of the quake on CNN or something, I just wanted to let you know that I’m fine.  But hey…the quake happened over three hours ago.  Do you not check CNN?  Are you not at all concerned about the welfare of your youngest daughter?  I alway knew you liked Karen more than me.  HMPH!! 😉

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake shook the San Francisco area Friday at 4:42 a.m. PT (7:42 a.m. ET), the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The quake left about 2,000 customers without power, said David Eisenhower, a spokesman for Pacific Gas and Light.

Under the USGS classification, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake is considered “light,” which it says usually causes minimal damage. “We had quite a spike in calls, mostly calls of inquiry, none of any injury, none of any damage that was reported,” said Capt. Al Casciato of the San Francisco police. “It was fairly mild.”

The quake was centered about two miles east-northeast of Oakland, at a depth of 3.6 miles, the USGS said. Oakland is just east of San Francisco, across San Francisco Bay.

An Oakland police dispatcher told CNN the quake set off alarms at people’s homes. The shaking lasted about 50 seconds, said CNN meteorologist Chad Myers.

According to the USGS, 4.2-magnitude quakes are felt indoors and may break dishes and windows, and overturn unstable objects. Pendulum clocks may stop.

Why is that that I can’t ever sleep past 4am while I am here in California. I wonder if my subconscious is concerned that I’m missing out on something important on the East Coast or something. Hmmm. Anyway, I hope you all have a great weekend and spend plenty of time watching TV rather than enjoying the beautiful summer outdoors (nah, that’s what TiVo is for).

Psst…don’t forget to tune into CONAN tonight as he’ll have MY BOYS star Jordana Spiro.  It’s officially time to get excited about the return of My Boys.  I’m going to be watching the first few episodes tonight in preparation for the Season 2 debut on July 3oth.

MeeVee RecommendsDoctor Who
The Doctor and Martha travel to New Earth in the distant future and tangle with the sinister Face of Boe and evil pharmacists.

MeeVee RecommendsMonk
Snoop Dogg and Kurrupt guest star in this week’s episode, where Mr. Monk must work to clear a famous rap star of a murder charge. We can only pray that Adrian ends up beatboxing.

MeeVee RecommendsPsych
Shawn disagrees with the cops over how old an unearthed body actually is. For some reason, this involves dressing up in a dinosaur costume.

PSYCH Yourself up for PSYCH

After promising to do so in my last podcast, I failed to write anything about last week’s premiere episode of PSYCH.  I was away for the weekend and blah, blah, blah, I didn’t even mention it.  Well today I am.  Today I am asking you to set your TiVos for tonight’s episode of PSYCH on USA at 10/9c.  The show is funny, quirky and I really think you all will love it.  Have I steered you wrong in the past?  I think not. Just give it a shot and then drop me a line and let me know what you think.

Check out a scene from tonight’s all new episode.

Jenna Fischer is Dawesome

Jenna Fischer

It sometimes absolutely floors me how amazing the cast of THE OFFICE is. I’ve been the beneficiary of their kindness and generosity first hand, and I’m still amazed at just how down to earth and appreciative they are. Case in point, yesterday when the Emmy nominations were announced one of the first things freshly-nominated Jenna Fischer did was to jump on to her MySpace page and post a blog to her fans. Cool, right? Well it gets even better.

While all the press biggies (People, ET, Access Hollywood) were clamoring all day to get the stars’ reactions to their nominations, Jenna Fischer decides to give her only interview of the day to OfficeTally.com, the biggest and most dedicated Office fansite out there. Jenna emailed site creator Jennie Tan personally and offered to chat. If that’s not totally dawesome I don’t know what it.

Click here to read highlights from Jennie’s conversation with Jenna.

Kudos Jennie…and Jenna!!

P.S. I didn’t think my love for all things Jenna Fischer could be any deeper, and then she goes ahead and tells us she a big fan of Big Brother. Geesh…I wonder if she’s loving Dustin as much as I am.

BIG BROTHER Eviction Night

Tonight was the second eviction of the BIG BROTHER 8 season. After the live votes were cast by the houseguests either Joe or Dick was going home.

Having watched a little bit of the live feeds I thought that Dick easily had the votes he needed to stay.  But then I started getting some other tidbits from the live feeds that made me think that maybe Joe pulled it off and got the votes he needed.  I was giddy with anticipation.

Who Was Voted Off SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?

Cat Deely you are killing me. I just finished watching tonight’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, and I’m bawling like someone just stole my non-existent puppy. Tonight we had to say goodbye to two more contestants. It was the most important elimination to date as the two leaving tonight will not make the final ten and therefore not be on tour this summer. Cat, being the best host of any reality show ever (yeah you heard be Probst & Seacrest), fought back tears and struggled through the final minutes of the show. See she was on national television so she didn’t really want to cry. Me? I’m in a hotel room in San Francisco by myself so I was free to sob like a child.

So just who did we say goodbye to tonight? Well first we have to talk about the bottom three couples.

Dancing for their lives tonight were Danny Tidwell & Anya Garnis, Lauren Gottlieb & Neil Haskell and Jaimie Goodwin & Hok Konishi.

I must say that I truly thought that all six solos were incredible. The only person that gave me even a moments pause was Neil. Danny and Hok were so incredible that I was nervous that Neil, although beautiful, wouldn’t be able to compare to his counterparts.

For the ladies, Anya really responded to the judges critique last week about her stepping it up on her solo and she did just that. I thought her performance tonight was incredible. Lauren, wow Lauren stepped up her game in a huge way tonight too. If we saw her dance with that intensity all season I wouldn’t have been rooting for her to go home. Jaimie once again dazzled me with her technique and grace. Her dancing teacher, Denise Wall was in the audience. Nigel commended Denise on being such a wonderful teacher, and made mention that she also taught last year’s finalist Travis. As in Travis Wall…her son. It seems that Denise really knows what she’s doing as her adopted son, Danny Tidwell, is also kicking ass this season (even if he is being one as well). I don’t know what’s in the water in Denise Wall’s dance studio but give me a gallon of it to go.

But back to the dancers.  In the end we had to say goodbye to one guy and one girl, and those dancers are…

GMMR Emmy Poll #1: Best Comedy

July 19, 2007 by
Filed under 30 Rock, Entourage, The Office, Ugly Betty

Emmy day is always a good time. You can be elated when your favorites get nominated and at the same time pretty pissed off over the very obvious snubs. I thought it might be fun to take a little informal poll to see who GMMR thinks SHOULD take the Emmy and then check out who they think WILL take it home.

From time to time I’m going to be posting new polls in each category, and come Emmy time we’ll see just how good we are.

So first up is BEST COMEDY. Tell us who you think SHOULD win in this category (and be honest).

Ok, now tell us who you think WILL win on Emmy night. Again, honesty is key – just because it’s your favorite doesn’t mean that you think it will win the big award.

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Recap: Top 12 Perform

A special thanks goes out to Jet Blue Airlines for allowing me to experience SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE like I’ve never experienced it before – from 30,000 feet in the air. I wish I could say that the high altitude made me giddy over tonight’s performances, but I can’t. This is the last time that all the original partners were dancing together and I wanted magic. Needless to say I felt a bit underwhelmed.

One of the bright spots for me tonight was guest judge Wade Robson. Sigh. Wade how I love thee, let me count the ways.

Before we get into the dances, let me say that I wrote this recap while on the flight last night (Wednesday) and I got a few stares from fellow passengers who were probably wondering why I pulled out a notebook and pen and took notes during a reality show. I must have looked a bit foolish…but it’s all for you!

My all around favorite couple, Sabra Johnson and Dominic Sandoval, were up first tonight with a Jive routine be choreographer Tony Meredith (and assisted by the poor man’s Better Midler who partners with Pasha a few weeks back.) While I can’t say that the Jive was my favorite performance by Sab and Dom, I still loved it. The lifts were a little clunky and they were out of sync a few times, but I can forgive that because they both attacked the dance and left everything on the stage. The judges were all feelin’ the routine, and Nigel went as far to say that these two were the best partners since Benji and Cousin Heidi. Now that’s a compliment.

Jaimie Goodwin and Hok Konishi took the stage next with a Tyce D’Orio Broadway routine assisted by BF Travis Wall. I gotta say that I’m usually on the same page with the judges, but not one this one tonight. I was completely mesmerized by the performance and it moved me to the point that I got a little teary (which is quite awkward on a full plane). Jaimie has really shown me something the past few weeks. Her lines and the control she has over her body is stunning. Hok is so likable and so amazing at what he does that I want him to do well. I personally thought he was crazy good tonight, but the judges disagreed. Wade didn’t respond to the story or the characters. And while Mary and Nigel both praised Jaimie they weren’t feeling Hok’s performance tonight.

59th Annual Primetime Emmy Award Nominations

It’s about 5:30AM here on the West Coast and my bleary eyes are up only because it happens to be EMMY day!! Here are the nominations for the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Overall not a terrible list. Obviously I’m overjoyed that THE OFFICE and its stars Steve Carell, Jenna Fischer and Rainn Wilson were nominated. Finally Neil Patrick Harris was recognized for his work on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER which thrills me to no end. The category with the strongest competition has to be Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: Harris, Wilson, Dillon, Cryer (whatevs) and The Pivs…wow. But I’m insanely disappointed that FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS wasn’t recognized in any of the major categories? What? This honestly bewilders me.

What do you think of the Emmy noms. Did your favorites make the cut? Were there any noms that shocked you?

Is Sarah Wayne Callies Leaving PRISON BREAK?

Is Sarah Wayne Callies Leaving PRISON BREAK?

The rumors have been swirling that Sarah Wayne Callies, who plays  Dr. Sara “Tequila” Tancredi, will not be returning for Season 3 of PRISON BREAK.   Some are saying that there are contract negotiation issues, others are saying that Sarah wants more time off after the birth of her baby, while others are saying that the producers weren’t happy with her.  But is any of it true?

Being the hard hitting journalist I am, I went straight to Fox and asked if there was any truth to the rumors that Sarah Wayne Callies would not be returning for S3 and got an exclusive, 100% completely vague answer.

“We haven’t revealed many plot details for the third season.  Dr. Sara Tancredi will be part of the storyline when the show returns though.”

Let’s be honest, that could mean just about anything.  Maybe Tequila Tancredi is back in full force and all this nonsense is just that…nonsense.  But it also could mean that something happens to Sara that affects the storyline – one which she might not have to be present for. Hmmm.

If Sarah Wayne Callies does in fact leave Prison Break, does that mean they are going to be casting a new love interest for Wentworth Miller?  If so, I’d like to officially throw my name in the hat!  I know I haven’t done much since I played Cindy Lou Who in my 5th grade performance of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” but I’ve still got it in me.  I’m an actress!!

So what do you think about Sarah possibly leaving?  Do you think it’s just a rumor or there is something to it?  And what about the impact on the show and Sara Tancredi’s relationship with Michael Scofield?
