DANCING WITH THE STARS Recap – Week 6

Comments Off on DANCING WITH THE STARS Recap – Week 6

Guilty Pleasures week was miles better than Americana week, especially because “American Woman” was an anti-American song. The guilty pleasures at least fit the tempos of the songs somewhat better. As the contestants descended from the stairs, Hines was not as happy looking as the rest of the contestants. Kirstie made some bird motions as a hello to someone out in the television audience. Apparently Hanson became the house band for the night singing snippets of songs like “Hello” and “Achy Breaky Heart.” Sadly, their ten second snippets sounded better than the full versions of the Howard Wheeler Band.

Brooke pointed out that she doesn’t know how to handle a microphone as she constantly pulled her microphone away before she finished her sentences or celebrities because of bad timing. Luckily Tom is a very quick-witted host that can react on a dime.

NURSE JACKIE’s Peter Facinelli on the Return of Coop’s Lesbian Moms, Marriage and More

Comments Off on NURSE JACKIE’s Peter Facinelli on the Return of Coop’s Lesbian Moms, Marriage and More

If you’ve been watching NURSE JACKIE since its glorious first season, you know that the well-meaning but often dim-witted Dr. Cooper has two pretty interesting moms.

Blythe Danner and Swoosie Kurtz played the committed lesbian couple that raised Coop and, on this Monday’s NURSE JACKIE, his mommies return — to announce their imminent divorce.

Unfortunately, Danner was busy doing another project during the filming of this episode, so her role had to be recast. Luckily, Judith Light was able to step in.

GIVE ME MY REMOTE spoke with Dr. Cooper himself, Mr. Peter Facinelli, about the storyline…

SUPERNATURAL Recap: Frontierland

April 23, 2011 by
Filed under #1 featured, Posts by Nicole, Supernatural

Right off the bat, things were looking very promising with the super cool new SUPERNATURAL opening credits. I recognized the concept, but had to do some research to determine that it was an homage to the old ‘Bonanza’ credits, which I’d never actually seen. I should also point out that apparently this episode was very similar to ‘Back to the Future Part 3’, which I’ve also never seen, so if you’re wondering why I don’t address it, there’s your answer.

The concept of the episode was really fun, but the story in terms of mythology was extremely simple. Basically, through research (in a hilarious book-reading montage backed by sultry blues guitar for some reason), Team Hunter determined that they needed the ashes of a phoenix in order to kill the Mother. But where to get these ashes? Well, Dean found Samuel Colt’s old journal, which luckily detailed the exact date and time that he shot and killed a phoenix with his gun, which I guess wasn’t called the Colt back then, because that would make Samuel pretty narcissistic.

SMALLVILLE Recap: Booster

April 23, 2011 by

Ok, I admit I wasn’t looking forward to the Booster Gold storyline. However, after watching Eric Martsolf work his role as the charming, cocky, arrogant superhero with perfect white teeth, this episode of SMALLVILLE sucked me in! Traveling from the future with the help of the legion ring, Booster attempts to steel Clark’s spotlight, Metropolis’ love and the key to the city, making Clark insecure in a way we haven’t seen in a while.

For years we’ve watched Clark torn between his destiny as Superman, and his persona as “Smallville,” but no matter what has fueled his inner turmoil, he has always been the most powerful superhero on the block…until now. Sure Booster has nothing on him except that his arrival coincides with Clark’s latest efforts (with Lois’ help) to make himself unnoticeable.

FRINGE Recap: ‘6:02 AM EST’

April 23, 2011 by

“I was never good at letting you go.”

Oh, Walter. Everything inevitably comes back to the possibility of him losing his son and his stubborn refusal to accept that.

And really, that’s why we’re in the position we’re in on FRINGE, isn’t it? Walter simply loved his son too much to let him die. When the worst happened to his Peter and he saw the potential to save the alt-version of Peter, he risked everything to just save that boy. He had no intention of keeping him, but he did and everything has led to these moments where Walter might be forced to sacrifice the boy who became his son in order to right the wrongs of his past.

As much as it’s enjoyable to watch Peter and Olivia or Lincoln and Fauxlivia or any of the other romantic pairings on the show, there is no denying the father-son dynamic is the heart of this story. The Peter and Walter relationship has grown, splintered when the betrayals were revealed, deepened with the forgiveness that was granted and the fact remains that these men will do literally anything for each other.

It’s with that knowledge that I can’t help but go into these last few episodes of FRINGE’s third season with a bit of worry that something is about to go terribly wrong for our Bishop men.

COMMUNITY Recap: Paradigms of Human Memory

“Feast your ear-tons on these memory pops!”

Everyone who has seen and enjoyed more than a single episode of COMMUNITY can tell you: this show does things a little differently. It’s a sitcom like so many others, but while it acknowledges the tropes it works within, it spends its energy on twisting them, and its characters, in ways that might defy your expectations of them.

It’s what makes the show so consistently refreshing: give an audience a group of twenty- and thirty-somethings with oodles of romantic and personal issues and witty dialogue, and you’ve got your FRIENDS/HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER standard (albeit hilarious) show. Enjoyable in ways that tens of millions of people can appreciate (including this writer), but when you cut it down to the bones we’ve seen it before.

SUPERNATURAL Preview: ‘Frontierland’

Comments Off on SUPERNATURAL Preview: ‘Frontierland’

In tonight’s brand new episode of SUPERNATURAL, the Winchester brothers travel back in time — and it’s quite probable you won’t find a happier cowboy than Dean.

And while “Frontierland” is another genre-bending hour, it’s in no way frivolous. As SUPERNATURAL executive producer Robert Singer told Give Me My Remote last week, the writers “had talked about how to do a Western and how to do it in the old west and we played with that notion probably since season one. What sends them back into the old west here was very organic and was set up by the fact that they have gone back in time before, but they have a real purpose for going back here. We had a lot of fun with the Western, but it does really progress the overall story for the year.”

Counting down the minutes until the episode? Check out some previews of “Frontierland”!
