Top 13 TV Shows of 2012

December 31, 2012 by

Once again, I need to start off my list with a caveat: I’m behind on some quality shows. So yes, there may be some amazing television not listed here, but I’m not going to pretend to love a show that gets universal praise just to do it. I love what I love and I certainly watch enough television to speak about a whole lot of shows I do watch. And heck, this list expanded twice (went from 10 shows to 12 until I ultimately settled on 13), and if I had let myself think about it more, it’s likely I could have added another two shows (or 20).

So, with that being said, here are my top 13 television shows of 2012 in descending order…

FRINGE: ‘The Boy Must Live’ You Ask, I Answer

December 28, 2012 by

The end is very near, FRINGE fans: when the series returns in 2013, there will only be three episodes left — the three-part series finale.

I had the chance to screen the January 11th episode, “The Boy Must Live,” and in order to not spend my time counting down until the two-hour series finale, I took some of your questions from Twitter about the antepenultimate installment of the show. I’m going to do my best to answer them here, but the intention is not to ruin your enjoyment of the hour (especially since there are only three episodes left of the entire series). So if you asked something super spoilery or specific, it may not get answered. But hopefully you’ll still enjoy these teases…

LEVERAGE Series Finale: Some Thoughts on ‘The Long Goodbye Job’

December 26, 2012 by

Confession: I was dreading watching the LEVERAGE series finale.

It’s not that I didn’t want to see it…it’s just that this show has been so much fun over the years and the knowledge that this was it — even if the late cancellation had led to them treating this as the series finale versus a season finale — made it a little hard to turn the final episode on.

But when I did, I was so happy with what I saw. It was everything I felt a LEVERAGE finale should have been, and if we had to say goodbye, I’m glad it was this way.

Of course, I had a few more thoughts about what went down…

LEVERAGE: Aldis Hodge Talks About the Show’s Final Season

December 24, 2012 by

The holiday season isn’t as bright for LEVERAGE fans, as the series will say goodbye with “The Long Goodbye Job”…an episode that was shot without them knowing for certain whether the end was in fact coming. And while the producers decided to go forward with what they planned as the series finale in the hour, the decision to cancel the show only came out late last Friday night.

I spoke with Aldis Hodge (Hardison) before it was revealed that TNT wouldn’t be continuing on with the series, and he expressed his desire to continue on with the series…while still being satisfied with how Tuesday’s now-series finale left the show.

Take a look at that, his favorite episode from this season, and more…

TNT Cancels LEVERAGE

December 21, 2012 by

When I spoke with LEVERAGE executive producer Dean Devlin a few weeks ago, he spoke about crafting next week’s season finale as also a potential series finale since its fate on TNT was up in the air. And now, there’s some not great news.

“It has been decided today that this Tuesday’s episode of Leverage ‘The Long Goodbye Job’ will be the series finale as TNT has decided not to renew the show for a sixth season,” Devlin wrote in a letter that was posted on leveragefans.com. “I’m so happy we were able to film the series finale we had always envisioned and I’m happy we’re able to present it on Christmas as our gift to you.  It’s a bittersweet goodbye.”

Are you bummed out that LEVERAGE won’t continue? Or are you at least pleased it’ll end with the series finale they always planned?

Report: HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Cast Signs on For 9th Season

December 21, 2012 by
Filed under HIMYM, How I Met Your Mother, TV News

It seems HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER will continue on for another season.

Deadline is reporting that deals have closed with the five leads of HIMYM — Jason Segel (Marshall) was reportedly the one who was waivering on whether to return — which means the show will almost certainly continue on for a ninth and final season. (Reps for the show had no comment at this time. If/when there’s confirmation, I’ll let you guys know.)

If this isn’t the final season, that could be a bit tricky for the show. The showrunners have talked about writing this season as if it was the last, so if they plotted certain things they wanted to save for the final season, now the plans may have to get rejiggered.

Are you happy we’ll likely be getting more HIMYM?

ABC Schedules Original Episodes of HAPPY ENDINGS and DON’T TRUST THE B—- IN APARTMENT 23 on January 6th, Pulls 666 PARK AVE

When ABC announced that they wouldn’t be picking up the back nine for 666 PARK AVENUE, the plan was to have all 13 filmed episodes air. Now, it seems that might not be the case.

An ABC press release has come out saying that new episodes of HAPPY ENDINGS and DON’T TRUST THE B—- IN APARTMENT 23 will air in the Sunday at 10 PM slot on January 6, 2013. There’s no word on whether the comedies will continue there beyond that point (they each have episodes that weren’t set to fit into their current airing order) or 666 PARK AVE will join the Sunday lineup at a later point, but the new drama RED WIDOW is set to take over that spot on March 3, 2013.

I reached out to the ABC publicists to find out if there was any plan to air the remaining episodes of 666 PARK AVE (which have already been shot), and if they have any news to share, I’ll be sure to update you.

UPDATE 2:09 PM PT: Sources confirm the four remaining episodes of 666 PARK AVENUE have been pulled from their Sunday slot will be scheduled for a TBD summer run.

In the meantime, are you at least happy to get new comedy episodes?

First the good news: AMC has renewed their hit, THE WALKING DEAD, for a fourth season.
