BONES: ‘The Source in the Sludge’ You Ask, I Answer

BONES has been off this month as it waits to return to Monday nights, but the good news is there’s less than two weeks until the show is back.

I had the chance to screen the March 10th episode, “The Source in the Sludge,” and thanks to your tweets, Tumblr messages, and emails, I have some teases to make the wait a little bit easier…

All this [talk of] Brennan wanting to work more with Booth in the field and the presence of a CIA agent, [does it have] something do to with how the season will end? – tvtaughtmehowtofeelgood via Tumblr

You know, I thought the season was leading up to Booth switching over to the CIA, but BONES boss Stephen Nathan shot down that theory last month. In the press letter accompanying the screener, Nathan and BONES creator Hart Hanson noted that “this episode also marks the beginning of the trajectory toward our season ender,” but…I really only have one theory as to what that could mean. (And even that feels wrong. I’m looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say after watching the hour.)

Do Booth and Danny have some good scenes together & do you think he will be back? – @debscon via Twitter

They have some really, really great scenes together. It takes Booth a little bit to figure out the full depth of what is going on, but once he does, there are some fantastic things for David Boreanaz (Booth) and Freddie Prinze Jr. (Danny) to play with. As for Danny’s future, I really hope the show continues to bring him back as long as it plausibly fits into the storylines.

Stephen Nathan said prior, that we would see Booth question Danny in a surprising way to viewers, any hints on that?  – Gina via email

Danny is once again deeply involved in a case, but this time around, his behavior leads to Booth questioning whether he should really trust him…and whether he might be more involved with the murder than meets the eye.

Marisa, after doing my googling, I can’t seem to come up with who wrote #Bones The [Source] In The Sludge? Also, do you know if we will be seeing more of Freddie Prinze Jr. again before the end of the season? #InquiringMindsWantToKnow  @geraghtyvl via Twitter

Per a rep for the show (since we don’t get the credits in our screeners), Jonathan Collier wrote “The Source in the Sludge.” And it would be nice to see Danny again before the season ends, wouldn’t it?

Is there any chance that Daisy and Sweets will be together again? – Anastasia via email

Romantically, that’s still TBD. (Though Carla Gallo has put it out there that she would like a reunion.) But in a platonic sense, when Daisy has a secret she’s struggling to keep, she does turn to her Lancelot to talk things out. Luckily for her, he has some spot-on advice.

Any mention or nod to Booth’s army past? – Mark via email

Yes! It’s not a massive conversation, but Booth does acknowledge he has first-hand knowledge of how you can be changed when you return from duty. But if you’re looking for Booth (and Brennan) to acknowledge more of their pasts, there’s a really cute conversation at the start of the episode that mentions a few of the things they’ve gone through together.

In a scale 1 to 10(+) how is the end of the next episode? – Melissa via email

I debated answering this, because I don’t want to hype it up too much, so I’ll bypass giving it an actual number score, and say this: I absolutely freaking adored the end scene. As someone who has watched the show since day 1, it’s the kind of conversationally couple-y scene — that is still so true to the partnership they’ve (almost) always had — that it made me want to give the writers a high five.

What can you tease about that understanding Booth and Brennan come to, according to the stills‘ description? – @flappergirls via Twitter

Well, the friction isn’t exactly caused by either of them. It comes from an outside source…a company, to be exact. But facts and logic help to smooth things over.

I know a lot of you were also asking about further episodes, and while this post is just about what is essentially the midseason premiere  — and there’s a ton of stuff out there — the BONES EPs did drop this little tease in their press letter about the remaining stretch of episodes, so I figured I’d share:

“To name a few highlights – Cam (Tamara Taylor) will be meeting Arastoo’s (guest star Pej Vahdat) parents, Wendell (guest star Michael Grant Terry) returns to work in the midst of his cancer fight, Daisy (guest star Carla Gallo) tries to get her doctorate and Clark (guest star Eugene Byrd) goes head-to-head with Brennan when he announces that he’s completed his own novel. ”

BONES returns with new episodes on Monday, March 10th at 8 PM on Fox.

I was wondering if there will be any reference to Ralph Waite in a coming episode. Will there be reference to Booth’s grandfather dying? NCIS is doing a show about Gibb’s dad passing and I was just wondering about Bones.

If Daisy gets her doctorate, will that be the last we see of her? (YAY!) And will Kathy Reichs be on the review board like she was for Zach?

I can hardly wait for new episodes, in your article nothing was said about Bones/Brennan and Booth, will there be a little romance? Also will Bones/Brennan
Have a bigger role? Seems like she is being wrote almost out of show.

I’m like the others don’ really care for Clark or Daisy, really like Wendell and other interns. Also in past seasons you have had episodes of Christmas, Halloween, Valentines Day and Veterans Day and they were really good shows, how about more of those.

I love the show and will continue to watch, whole cast is fantastic, again would like to see more of Bones and Booth.

Just wondering – has there ever been any mention of Angela’s mother? Also, in an early episode, Brennan refers to her grandfather who took her out of the foster system. Then in another episode her father tells her that she has aunts on her mother’s side, and we even met her cousin Margaret. Would love to see these characters explored further.

I would also like to see the return of Brennan and Booth’s brothers-what happened to them? I know Bones can’t have every family member’s stories explored but it would be nice to see Russ and Jared and have those story lines tied up.
