After a season of teasing, CHICAGO FIRE’s Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) are engaged!

While Severide initially balked at proposing to his long-time girlfriend, worried she wanted the ability to bolt as needed, when she refused to leave him in a burning building, he proposed to her on the spot. And, thankfully, she said yes.

It played into what Mayo previously teased would happen for the duo. “Stella continues to navigate professionalism and the love that she has for [Severide],” she shared earlier in the month. “We’ve seen her prioritize the relationship…And with him, he’s been in denial about how important the relationship is to him…For him, I think he’s getting to the place of ‘F–k everything, I love this woman. I don’t care.’ We’re seeing him realize how much she means to him.”

And looking ahead, “it wouldn’t be CHICAGO FIRE if we didn’t end the season on a cliffhanger,” she says with a laugh.

“We’re definitely doing a giant finale, especially the last ten minutes,” CHICAGO FIRE boss Derek Haas teases. “These last two episodes, I’m telling you, we’re just throwing just giant, giant wall of story at the audience. The ones who have been with us this long, these are going to be two historical, major episodes for what the show means.”

What has helped the writers make that move is last season’s multi-year renewal. “When you’re in season one of a three season pickup, it’s liberating,” Haas admits. “Because you realize you could do life-altering, show-altering storylines, and you’re not worried that you won’t have time to wrap it up.”

Which means Haas has one final warning for the CHICAGO FIRE fans: “I want them to get prepared,” he says. “Get whatever they use to help relieve stress and tension as they’re watching. If it’s just squeezing a tennis ball, or biting down on a piece of wood to keep them from gnashing their teeth and calling me with curses. Grab that before you get to the last episode.”

CHICAGO FIRE, Wednesdays, 9/8c, NBC
