Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

AMERICAN SONG CONTEST: The ranked order of performances (by the jury votes) already felt cruel, but live updates feels so, so unnecessarily harsh. All we, really, need to know is who is #1, because they’re automatically onto the next round.  (It also felt like there were a lot more live show glitches this week?)

Riker Lynch may have been my favorite performance of the night, because it was just fun.

AMERICAN IDOL: Okay, new TV rule: You can fake out one (1) contestant with the “we’re gonna make you think you were cut, but you’re really going through!!!!” gag per episode. (And even that feels generous.) Anything more than that, nope. I get it’s nicer than leading someone to think they were going through and then cutting them, but it got tired very, very fast when they pulled it on more than half of the people they let through? What a weird choice.

WEAKEST LINK: Look, I know I cover approximately 89713 Dick Wolf shows, but in WHAT WORLD DO YOU NOT KNOW LAW & ORDER AND THAT OPENING? Even if you haven’t watched the show, have you not flipped by it on basic cable?! It lasted 20 seasons the first go-round! Come on.

Which shows did you watch last night?
