It’s official: MAGNUM P.I.’s run on NBC is set to conclude on Wednesday, January 3 with back-to-back episodes, Give Me My Remote has learned.

“Ashes To Ashes,” which was promoted after the Perdita Weeks-helmed December 13 episode, airs at 9/8c. “The Big Squeeze,” the season 5 finale, airs at 10/9c. (Notably, the finale was written and filmed before MAGNUM was canceled; the complete series DVD set is also set to be released next month.)

As it stands, this marks the end of the road for MAGNUM P.I., which was canceled by CBS in 2022, revived by NBC for a 20-episode season 5, and then canceled by NBC in June.

“This season was for the fans,” showrunner Eric Guggenheim previously told Give Me My Remote. “They saved the show and we’ll always be grateful. I hope they come away feeling that we rewarded their faith in us. I can honestly say we left it all on the field.”

Series star Zachary Knighton, who played Rick, echoed the fan love while promoting his recent directorial debut. “Well, I’ve never seen anything like this, I gotta say; I’ve never seen a group of fans like this group of fans,” he said at the time. “I mean, my God, they had a billboard in Times Square [last month]. So it is an honor. I’m humbled.”

“I was on a show before called HAPPY ENDINGS—there was a very big fan push to get that show saved. But it was nothing like this,” he continued. “I mean, this is unreal…I’m really uplifted by the fact that it was something that got canceled and all these people got together to try to save it. And they did. I mean, it’s really, really incredible…I hope that they enjoy these last episodes. And you better believe that when I was directing my episode, I was just thinking about them and wanting to deliver them something incredible. And I just hope everybody is at peace and feels good. And…if they ever called me to do more of this, I would of course do it because I would do it for the fans—they deserve it.”

MAGNUM P.I., Wednesdays, 9/8c, NBC
