Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: FANTASY LEAGUE: Oh, for as brutal as the first weeks were, this is so, so much worse/harder. If the show comes back for a second installment, I hope they figure out a way to add a few weeks worth of episodes so they can not deal with cutting 70 percent of the group going into the finale.

As it is, I genuinely do not get Mel B. or Howie’s choices. When you know the audience is going to vote a single act through, why are you not protecting your team if you believe in them? For Howie, he knows how hard it is for comedians—why not save Preacher? Or Anna when he saw how much her act fell apart at times due to no fault of her own? And for Mel, well, she could have done the same for either of her acts. Instead, they poached people and they lost their entire team they went in with. (Look, I think Kodi Lee is great, but this was not a good performance and there was a better singer who didn’t make it through. Sorry to Loren Allred…you deserved better.)

I will say I felt awful for Anna. Mel B. was not the best assistant, she was actively not paying attention when it was vital to the timing of the act and Anna’s entire future on the show, and I don’t blame Anna for making some jokes to try and ease the tension. But it’s clear the audience turned on her at that point, and that is unfortunate.

THE IRRATIONAL: Ohhhhh, I’m so glad to have this show back.

The senator possibly being behind the bombing is such an interesting mess, because, yeah, if they take this shot, they absolutely cannot be wrong or make the move without overwhelming evidence. There’s one chance to get this done, to do this right. Good luck, Marisa.

I really loved the window into Alec’s residual trauma (as well as its impact on those around him) with the burn case. The shot of the burns on his back? As strange as this sounds, it was a gorgeously done moment, visually. Yes, Alec has scars on his face, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg with the ramifications of the bombing, both literally (in terms of scars) and figuratively (in terms of the emotional impact on his life).

On a lighter note, I enjoyed Phoebe and Rizwan’s competition. It wasn’t as light for them, but it provided a little bit of balance to a serious episode.
