BONES is taking another crack at the Ghost Killer case on Monday, and like showrunner Stephen Nathan teased, the case will be getting wrapped up…well, sort of.

“We actually do solve the Ghost Killer case, but that unfortunately unravels and opens up Pandora’s box,” BONES star Tamara Taylor (Cam) previewed. “It’s much deeper than we thought. It all goes much deeper than we thought. I think the team thinks that we’ve finally done it, everybody breathes a sigh of relief, and then it’s like, ‘Oh, but there’s more.'”

Unfortunately for the team, the tension doesn’t exactly let up: the May 12th season finale — which Nathan had teased would consist of “a pretty substantial cliffhanger” that will “at least temporarily change the way all of the crimes are dealt with” — puts Booth and Brennan is a precarious situation.

“The season finale is so not what anyone expected,” Taylor admitted. “I don’t know how we’re going to open [next year]; I don’t know what the season [10] premiere will look like. I really don’t know. I definitely understand what Stephen was talking about [with the temporary change], because it’s quite a pickle. The season finale certainly puts Brennan and Booth in an interesting position, and I have no clue how we’re going to get them out of it.”

“[The situation is] more contained around Booth and Brennan,” she continued. “We are involved in a crazy case that they are essentially the center of…We’re all here, we’re all alive, but the dynamic will change [next year], certainly in the beginning.”

Because the show is often playing to its more serious side in the final stretch of season 9, Taylor acknowledged she relished the opportunity for the squints to get a little bit goofy in a recent episode as Cam, Angela, and Hodgins tried to figure out how to tell Clark that his book was terrible.

“It was one of the most fun things to shoot: what an awful, awful writer he is,” Taylor laughed. “Oh, we were howling. I’m surprised they got a take where I wasn’t laughing, because literally every single take, every time Michaela [Conlin (Angela) reacted], I was on the ground. It was like nothing I ever read before; when she did that, I was done.”

BONES airs Mondays at 8 PM on Fox.

Have to say this is an interesting development, sounds like a big change for both Booth and Brennan, much more intriguing than breaking them up, but if Sweets and Clark are the new FBI/Jeff investigation team, wake me when its over, no way am I watching that.
