“Did I mention things get intense?” CHICAGO P.D. showrunner Rick Eid asks in the midst of previewing the NBC drama’s season 8 finale. “Things get intense.”

The penultimate hour of P.D. ended with Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) being ambushed, and things get more intense in the May 26 episode, “The Other Side.”

“We find her in a lot of trouble in the finale,” Eid previews. “The episode is basically about Intelligence trying to find Burgess before it’s too late. Burgess is in a rough place—we find her in harm’s way, in a really dire situation. And Intelligence is doing everything they can to find her, [but] they have different philosophies about what is right and what is wrong—what is permissible and what is not permissible. They’re struggling to find her at all costs.”

Throughout the season, the team has struggled with the new mandates, as they coped with the ongoing police reform and the increased eyes on them as they do their job. But in trying to find Burgess, they’ll face their toughest challenge yet.

“That’s what the whole episode is really about on that side of the story: What’s the right way to do this?” Eid says. “The second part of the episode 15, with Deputy Superintendent Miller’s son, they came up against the same issue of, do we skirt the law for the greater good? Do we ‘do the wrong the right reason’? And they come up against it again, but this is even more personal, even more emotional.”

Ruzek is struggling to keep it together and is prepared to do anything he needs to do to find her,” he continues. “Voight wants to find her whereabouts as well, but there are certain rules in place and things they can and can’t do. There are different perspectives on police reform within the team, among the team members. Atwater and Halstead have a different perspective on this than Ruzek and Voight.”

And while Squerciati previously teased that “Intelligence will look different next year,” Eid was a bit more coy.

“I would say at the end of this episode, a lot happens,” he says. “We’ll have to see what presents itself in season 9. I know what happens in season 9, but but I don’t want the audience to know already what’s going to happen in season 9, because then it’ll take away from the ending [of season 8]. I want them to watch the season premiere of season 9 and for them to experience what happens then and not know what happens now.”

But Eid did have a fun tease about CPD’s central couples. When pressed about how Burgess’ ordeal might impact the relationships between Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger)/Burgess or Upton (Tracy Spiridakos)/Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), he offers this hint: “A big question is asked by one of our cast members to another cast member.”

Actually I don’t like Adam and Kim together romantically
they should just stay as just friends and nothing more.
I rather for Kevin and Kim to get together romantically instead of
Adam and Kim they’re relationship was nothing but drama and toxic.

I would like to see Jay in a relationship with Kara Kellmier from Chicago Fire. I don’t know how that would work since she works on another show but would like them to find a way for it to work😁😁. I can’t remember exactly if she was the one that just happened to be waiting in the emergency waiting room when there was a bounty on Jays life and him and Erin were at a bar when the guy came in and started shooting at Jay and Erin pushed him out of the way and a bullet hit the female bartender that was friends with Jay. I can’t exactly remember her name either but I was thinking Mattie or Maddy or something like that was the one waiting in the waiting room when Jay come there to find out how Mattie/Maddie was doing. I think those 2 are a lot alike as far as being carrying about other people and had some chemistry even though she was only there a few minutes longer after Jay got there, it just seems they had a little spark between them. I also wouldn’t mind seeing the woman bartender that got shot to start working at Molly’s where the intelligence and other cops go to and Jay and her be in a relationship if they could work that part into the show. If that same woman would be back on the show which I would prefer but if she doesn’t come back on the show that they would get a woman that looks like her. I think she was a pretty young lady and Jay and her would make a good couple also. It would be someone that didn’t work in the same job as Jay but since they always show them at Molly’s a lot then they could make that work. These 2 women would be a better couple than Jay and Hailey I think. I hope they do find someone that Atwater could be in a relationship with and would like to see Voight be in a relationship with someone too. I like it when Olivia from Law & Order SUV comes to Chicago to help with a case and when Voight and the intelligence unit go to New York to help with a case also. I think her and Voight have chemistry and also by the way they look at each other lol. I know there’s a big difference on the places they both work and kinda in the same job and that Olivia loves and is good at her job and wouldn’t want to leave that show but would like to see them as a couple somehow. I would like to see Ruzek and Burgess get together and stay together and get married and have a baby together and let it live but I know that would be hard since they have the same job and out on the same call, maybe just not show the baby very much but when they are home at the same time, maybe get a nanny or a family member of Ruzek or Burgess come and live with them so someone would already be there to keep the baby when they leave for work lol. These are just some ideas that I have and would like them to put all the ideas or just 1 of them on the show if they could make it happen. Love watching this show and I will go back and watch the reruns all the way to the first season and first episode😁😁♥️♥️❣️❣️
