FBI: MOST WANTED season 5 was a big one for star Edwin Hodge (Ray)—who saw his character’s on-screen father get introduced and his character tied the knot in the franchise’s first wedding—but it wasn’t just the personal moments that resonated for him.

When Give Me My Remote asked the actor about his favorite moment or episode of the past season, he chose the April hour, “Supply Chain,” where the Fugitive Task Force tried to find a grieving mother—whose son died from a fentanyl overdose—after she abducted two teens in the middle of a drug deal.

“The one that touched me was the fentanyl overdose, the children overdosing on fentanyl,” Hodge says. “It kind of just sets in mind just how careless people are with the lives around them. We live in a selfish world and that episode kind of just proved how selfish the world is. So for me, it was the most heart-wrenching one because we were dealing with kids who by all means are innocent. They have no means to be mixed up in somebody’s bad dealings. But that episode touched near my heart.”

When MOST WANTED returns for its sixth season, Ray will be in a new position: Balancing his home life responsibilities of being a husband and stepfather with the on-the-road demands of his work life—something the actor hopes the writers lean into.

“I just really hope we build on the character, build on his situation with the new family,” Hodge says. “Really diving into the intricacies of what that means for Ray; what that support is [there] gonna be from his father?”

“And [also] playing his weaknesses,” he continues. “I think family—and I don’t mean this in a negative way—weakens you sometimes. There are situations where you really do have to make a choice: Is it going to be the family or is it going to be the job? And that then defines who you are, in a lot of people’s eyes. So it’ll be interesting to see how the audience defines Ray next season.”

FBI: MOST WANTED, Tuesdays, 10/9c, CBS
