On the Tuesday, October 11 episode of FBI, “Victim,” OA (Zeeko Zaki) finds himself in an unexpectedly tough spot when he’s mugged on the way to work.

“In this episode, you really get to see OA hit the entire spectrum of his possible emotional journey,” Zaki previews to Give Me My Remote. “I’m really excited about the episode, because in playing a more vulnerable side of OA, I am equally as excited to see if I got to pull it off; it was definitely a very intense filming experience. But the episode itself really, really was eye-opening to make and hopefully to watch.”

For OA, who is used to being the one investigating the crimes, having to contend with what happened to him isn’t exactly easy.

“He does have, I’m sure, control issues—[he wants] to protect and to always deliver on a certain outcome that he has his expectations set on,” Zaki notes. “When you are a victim of a traumatic event, your expectations of however that moment was supposed to go are definitely crushed, and you are in this moment of no control. When your job, or the majority of your life, has you needing to be in control in a life-or-death situation, having issues letting go of that become ingrained in you.”

As OA tries to focus on work—with the team trying to identify and track down a mysterious assailant escalating in their attacks against young women—the agent tries to dismiss and downplay what he went through.

“This is the battle of OA’s compartmentalizing powers,” Zaki explains. “Bringing your personal stuff to work, especially when you’re an FBI agent, doesn’t necessarily help the job or the cases usually. And I think when something traumatic happens, personally, trying to find that balance of leaving it at home so that you can do your job might not be as easy as it normally was.”

“We’ve seen that OA will really do whatever it takes to solve a case or to help, if he can,” he continues. “And this is the one where if he doesn’t look inside, if he doesn’t address his personal issues and his traumas, the case might not work out the way that he wants it to.”

But to make any progress—in both his own healing and the investigation itself—OA might need to rely on others. “It’s really interesting to watch him go on the journey of opening up and realizing that you have to take advantage of the support systems around you to survive,” Zaki says. “This episode just shows that FBI agents and all of these law enforcement superheroes are real people, too.”
