“Dumb Deaths” – When a television documentary crew comes to Woodstone Mansion to shoot an episode of “Dumb Deaths,” Pete confronts a hard truth about the day he died, on the CBS Original series GHOSTS, Thursday, Nov. 10 (8:31-9:01 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Mathew Baynton (“Ghosts” U.K. version) guest stars as an actor portraying Pete and actress and comedian Rose Abdoo plays the documentary producer. With so many, well, creative deaths occurring at Woodstone Mansion, the outside world shows a new kind of interest in what has happened on the Thursday, November 10 episode of GHOSTS.

“This crew from a television show called DUMB DEATHS [comes to see Sam and Jay]—they highlight the stupid ways that people have died over the years,” GHOSTS star Richie Moriarty (Pete) previews to Give Me My Remote.

Initially, the production team plans to center an episode on a different death—until they need to pivot, and eye Pete’s less than graceful end as a viable alternative.”When he thought that another ghost was going to be highlighted, he was very encouraging of the story happening,” Moriarty explains. “Now that he realizes it’s going to be about his own death, he’s not as thrilled—but has already promised that we should do this, because it will help Jay and Sam. So he’s begrudgingly going along with it, despite the portrayal not being great.”

Playing the DUMB DEATHS version of Pete is Mathew Baynton—who co-created and starred in the original British version of GHOSTS.

“He actually came on set while we were shooting scenes from another episode, and none of us knew he was arriving at the time,” Moriarty recalls. “I spotted somebody who was masked and looked like it might be Matthew, and I saw him having this moment, all by himself, and really taking in the set around him. He was having this really incredible, personal moment of coming to Canada [where GHOSTS films] to see the show that he created with a bunch of his friends in England, and now, all of a sudden, he’s on the set of the American version of this show. I think he was having an emotional moment of how far this idea has come.”

After giving Baynton some space, Moriarty introduced himself, and the duo had a chat. “We just had the most wonderful time with him,” Moriarty says. “He was incredibly encouraging of us, generous with his time; so collaborative and fun to have on set. He clearly loves to improvise and was gauging my interest in improvising, if we got the chance, and I’m always game; I come from an improv background.”

“The two of us are very like-minded in how we work and how we approach things,” he continues. “He was just a joy. The entire cast had such a great time with him. And I think he would say he had a great time. It was just a really special week to have shared with him.”

But, naturally, it wouldn’t be Pete’s backstory if there wasn’t an emotional revelation included in the episode.

“We’re getting to see his death through the eyes of one of the Pine Cone troopers who was there,” Moriarty previews. “She’s a significantly older woman now, and she’s returning to kind of share her experience of the day of Pete’s death. What we get is a really interesting look at the lasting impact Pete had on these kids. It’s a very sweet episode…I’m really excited for people to see it.”

GHOSTS, Thursdays, 8:30/7:30c, CBS
