CHICAGO P.D. Season 10 Finale Recap: Ruzek’s Undercover Operation Goes Awry

Ruzek’s (Patrick John Flueger) long-term undercover blew up—literally and figuratively—almost instantly on the Wednesday, May 24 season finale of CHICAGO P.D.
With Samantha Beck (Caitlin Mehner) trying to run—since her father, Richard (Lee Tergesen), moved up their plans to that day and she wanted no part of it—Ruzek was forced to reveal to her that he was a Chicago police officer.
Unfortunately, she was the only Beck who had their priorities straight: Richard blew up an old farmhouse (and injured a number of officers) and Callum, Samantha’s son, talked to Richard…who convinced the young man to not trust Samantha or Ruzek.
A panicked Callum ultimately shot Ruzek…and Samantha, seeing what her son did, took her son and ran. She also took Ruzek’s phone and tossed it down the stairs. Ruzek dragged himself to his phone and he called Burgess (Marina Squerciati), who quickly got medical help (and herself) to the scene.
As Ruzek was worked on in the ambulance, Ruzek made Burgess promise that she’d get to Callum before Richard got to him. Burgess agreed—and also promised she’d be by his side.
Though she was distraught at the idea of leaving the hospital, with Ruzek in surgery, Burgess ultimately tracked down Callum and Samantha. Samantha begged Burgess to say that she had shot Ruzek; she was willing to take the blame for her son.
And while Atwater shot Richard dead, Ruzek’s fate was still very much up in the air when the season came to a close.
