Ghosts Pete kisses Alberta

“The Liquor License” – Alberta’s expertise from her past comes in handy when Sam and Jay run into some complications during their Woodstone whiskey tasting soiree. Also, Trevor devises a ghost fraternity, which inspires a revelation from Isaac’s past, on the CBS Original series GHOSTS, Thursday, Dec. 8 (8:31-9:01 PM, ET/PT) on CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. GHOSTS’ Pete (Richie Moriarty) made a big move in order to woo Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) in “The Liquor License”—but it didn’t go as planned.

On the Thursday, December 8 episode of the CBS comedy, the ghosts helped Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) with an unexpected liquor license check.

“Being bad feels pretty good,” Alberta says to Pete in the aftermath.

“It was pretty exciting,” Pete admits. Alberta encourages him to take risks, and not be as cautious in his afterlife as he was in life. Pete takes it to heart, and he attempts to kiss his fellow ghost…only for her to promptly rebuff him.

“You’re going to see this as defeat, but this is a proud moment for you,” Alberta says, covering his mouth with her hand. “And I want you to acknowledge that.” He reluctantly does.

“It’s one of those moments where you almost want to be like, ‘This is why we teach the kids nowadays to ask for consent,'” Moriarty acknowledges to Give Me My Remote. “Because it’s better to know before you do something like that [if] the other person is ready to do the same thing. So I think for Pete, after that moment, [it’s] realizing that, hey, not everybody is going to be in the same place when they’re approaching the relationship. And if the other person isn’t there yet and needs time, then you gotta give them that time. And if that other person isn’t there at all, then that has to be fine, you know?”

“Going forward, we’re gonna see Pete realizing, hey, Alberta has expressed some interest, but she might not be there yet,” he continues. “He’s got to let that breathe and honor that. It feels like an important part of, again, what I’m teaching my little kids about consent—my kids are four and one, but we’re already talking to them about that; it’s important.”

In the meantime, Pete will play it cool as he—and they—figure out what happens next. “He’s happy to still wait it out,” Moriarty says. “It’s been roughly 40 years since he’s been in any sort of romantic relationship. So I think the fact that he has sincere interest in Alberta, he’s willing to wait. It might mean months or years, but I think he’s got the time.”

One thing that could keep them—and the other ghosts—busy? More insight into who the heck killed Alberta, especially now that they have new suspects.

“There are a couple of storylines in the show that are being slow played,” Moriarty acknowledges. “One being Pete and Alberta’s relationship, the other being her murder investigation. We get some more information, but I think it is going to be one of those storylines that is going to be slow played, and we’re going to learn more and more over the course of the season—and hopefully future seasons.”

“Personally, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I want the ghosts to dig in. Let’s all be CSI ghosts and then figure out what happened here with Sam’s help!'” he continues. “But I think we, frankly, haven’t learned as much as I thought we would in season 2 about her murder. So I can’t wait to learn more.”

GHOSTS, Thursdays, 8:30/7:30c, CBS
