[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Tuesday, January 3 episode of FBI, “Second Life.”]

FBI’s Isobel (Alana De La Garza) was blindsided on the Tuesday, January 3 episode of the CBS drama when she discovered a presumed homicide case from early in her career was simply a kidnapping—and the young woman had been with her captor for almost two decades.

Ultimately, the team is able to track the now-young woman down…as she’s trapped in a burning building. Though they’ve been told the area is clear, Izzy runs in and is able to save Annabelle (Kyra Belle Johnson) from certain death.

“The fact that Isobel gets to run into a burning building was pretty exciting,” De La Garza tells Give Me My Remote via email. “It was definitely a departure from Isobel getting updates and giving orders from the JOC.”

“Shooting the scene was done in sections, but such a fun way to spend the day,” she continues. “I got to play with Isobel’s drive to solve this case, which has such a great payoff in the end. We have a fantastic stunt coordinator and team that makes sure we’re all safe and secure in the end, as well.”

But the brush with fire wasn’t the only danger Isobel found herself in: When the case was concluded, Jake—who was Izzy’s ex-partner, as well as her ex-boyfriend—makes it clear he wants to spend time together. “At the end of the episode, Jake suggests having a drink for ol’ time sake and Isobel is not having any of it,” De La Garza says. “I think ultimately she isn’t convinced that they were ever really great together, and that their history should be kept just as that.”

And while that part of her history is better left in the past, getting to come back to this case and get closure “means everything to Isobel,” De La Garza notes. “This has to be made right for Annabelle and her family. I think in many ways for Izzy, too.”

FBI, Tuesdays, 8/7c, CBS
