With CHICAGO FIRE’s season about to come to an end (on Wednesday, May 22 at 9/8c), showrunner Andrea Newman acknowledged “It’s hard to pick one thing” she’s excited for fans to see.

“There are quite a few surprises, crazy calls that do not end the way anyone expects, and some big revelations for some of the characters,” she teased to Give Me My Remote via email. “So it’s a fun ride!”

On the more dramatic side, “in the finale, Carver and Damon both come out of a call badly shaken up,” Newman previews. “And it sets them on separate courses to surprising ends — with Lieutenant Kidd at the center of it all, wondering if she needs to make some big changes.”

Firehouse 51 also gets a new truck after the events of the wild 250th episode. “As the driver of the new truck, Mouch is the most affected by it,” Newman shares. “And it turns into a more personal, emotional journey than he expected.”

Of course, there is also a very big goodbye in store: Eamonn Walker, who has played Chief Boden—Firehouse 51’s de facto patriarch—since the premiere, will exit as a series regular in the finale.

“Boden has always inspired his family at 51 with his leadership and support (and speeches!), but the emotions of the finale are at an all-time high,” Newman previews. “And it’s others (both at 51 and outside of 51) who inspire Boden as he confronts some major decisions about his future.”
