“A Date to Remember” – Sam and Jay help Thorfinn create a perfect first date with Flower. Also, Hetty feels slighted by the ghosts’ new housemate, Nigel, on the CBS Original series GHOSTS, Thursday, Feb. 16 (8:31-9:01 PM, ET/PT) on CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Though GHOSTS fans may have been shocked when Trevor (Asher Grodman) and Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky) hooked up in season 2, it was actually in the works for a very long time.

“There was one moment early on in this process where our showrunners, Joe [Port] and Joe [Wiseman], they really wanted to hear our pitches,” Grodman recalls to Give Me My Remote. “There was one opportunity before season 1 for us to pitch things. And I went into that meeting with a pitch idea and found out later that—completely unaware of each other—Rebecca went into that meeting with the same idea: there should be some kind of entanglement between Trevor and Hetty.”

And while Woodstone is filled with star-crossed lovers, the actors had something else in mind. “Both of us were adamant that it’s not an emotional thing,” he says. “It’s not like there’s a crush, nothing like that. It’s just that these two need to hit up against each other, for lack of a better phrase. And I think it stems from the fact that they are very similar. They see the world as a hierarchy, and how they feel is based on where in that hierarchy they sit. Money is obviously a huge thing for them; money and power. Although I think for Trevor, it’s a little bit more about the respect that comes with the power, and for Hetty, it’s more about the power. But they’re very similar in that way. And then they come from similar worlds, but from different times.”

Of course, the duo has had more of their share of fighting each other. “She has tried to send him to Hell and she disinvited him from the party,” Grodman points out. “He tried to destroy her economic monopoly in the house. They are warring with each other. And if she hates the Irish, imagine what she thinks about the Jews? So there’s a lot of fun to be had there in the conflict that exists between them.”

“There’s a lot of things that they click on, and a lot of things that they fight over,” he continues. “It’s very interesting that she probably would be ashamed of being seen with him. But at the same time, she wants what he has in the sense that he’s so sexually liberated and she is coming up against that in her own journey.”

The duo took a step forward, of sorts, in the latest episode when Hetty went to Trevor for help on how to stir up a little bit of drama/vengeance in the house. “If you’re gonna manipulate someone and you want ideas on how to do it, Trevor is not a bad person to talk to,” Grodman says with a laugh. “So they can connive together and I think that’s a lot of fun. And there is a transactional nature into their sexual relationship, and to their relationship in general, that’s a lot of fun to play. It’s very easy for the ghosts to say, ‘This ghost is dating this ghost!’ I think the Trevor-Hetty relationship is much more strategic. And I think that’s a fun little flavor to play with.”
